Death From Piercing! :(

Small 'stabbings' can be worked around by the body, like piercings. Big, artery severing stabbings cannot, like this knife in my chest. It stings a bit.....

I see you understand the point then ;)

Is the legal age to get pierced in the UK 21?

No it's 16 or 18 for 'sexual' piercings (genitals nipples etc)

edit thanks for pointing that out neon

I really don't need to hear this. I been off work for nearly 8 weeks when the back of my leg just above the ankle got nailed by a towbat on a set of B747 engine steps. The wound is infected with that staphlococus aureus bacteria! I've currently got half pfizers (the chemical company) going through me atm, and I have to have the dressings changed 3 times a week. Its not pleasant at all, but at least it doesn't hurt.

However it doesn't disaprove my original point of which we are disagreeing about that the human body isn't designed to accept piercings. It needs to be adapted. In all honesty, if you believe otherwise, go to the kitchen, stab yourself nice and deep, and let it bleed and don't do anything to the wound and carry on as normal ;) Your clock will be ticking my freind ;)

a nipple peircing heals mate, just like ear peircings. you dont think the wounds stay open do you?

(I know Piggymon attention seaks on here but I thought that was it!)

Please tell me you're joking! Surely you knew there was more than 1 female on here, especially given the length of time you've been registered.

Either way the human body wasn't designed to be pierced by sharp objects, painful or not.

On the contrary, I find it's perfectly designed to put 50-100 hypodermics through in rapid succession.

no its just showing that piercings could kill in the worst of situations?

More people die of infection-related papercuts than from infection-related piercings.

Piercings are legalised self-harming in the name of fashion.

What about the metal, PTFE and plastic that is both through and in my body that people never see..? Fashion? Get over yourself.

Self-harm isn't illegal either.

I would say that it isn't designed full stop but this isn't a theological debate.

It needs to be adapted. In all honesty, if you believe otherwise, go to the kitchen, stab yourself nice and deep, and let it bleed and don't do anything to the wound and carry on as normal ;) Your clock will be ticking my freind ;)

You're comparing apples and oranges.

The body will EASILY form a fistula around a piercing as it is merely in the dermis. This is what piercings are - a healed tube of skin. Not open wounds.

Deeper piercings take longer but how about this - my body fully healed implants in six days.

That says to me that the body will readily and easily heal around a foreign object. If it didn't then every piercing and implant would reject.

Regarding the OP, surely "Death from TSS!" would be more appropriate?

I wonder how many people had a piercing in one way or another that day, deaths aren't a good thing, but i'm sure if you looked at it statistics wise then it would be a pretty small amount.

On a vaguely related note, I have a lump in my foot that is testament to the bodies ability to cope with weird things being stuck in it. About 15 years ago, as a wee lad, I used to play in the garden a lot. Shoes were very much optional, and on occasion so were clothes. One time I trod on a thorn or something and it get embedded in my foot. I ignored it at the time, as it didn't really hurt. My parents didn't bother having anything done about it, and to this day I have a round lump in the sole of my right foot where my body has happily sealed off the remnants of a foreign object. No point getting it removed now. It's not infected and causes me no pain.

I do not believe for one single minute that piercings are not done for any other reason than to show off in one way or another.

Please, try and convince me otherwise. I dont have my head stuck in the sand about this (despite what you might think) and I would like to be proven wrong, I just cant see it happening.

people get pleasure out of the pain and also the fact of having done.

But the pain is short lasting - if I wanted to get off on the pain, I could put a bradawl through my arm.

Just putting bits of metal through your body "because you felt like it" just doesnt cut it as an explanation for me...

Surely "because piercings in ridiculous areas of the body suck" is all the reason anyone needs.
I have both my nipples pierced i like them, to me they don't suck. I don't feel the need to tell people why i got them, i just wanted them.

Unless you did it brainlessly following someone else who had it done in order to "fit in" (a kind of "showing off") I am convinced you did it to show off to a partner (current or future).

I cant think of any other reason why you would want to get it done.
