Death From Piercing! :(

Unless you did it brainlessly following someone else who had it done in order to "fit in" (a kind of "showing off") I am convinced you did it to show off to a partner (current or future).

I cant think of any other reason why you would want to get it done.
I was single when i had it done i didn't have any guys that i liked. It's not like i ran home and went 'mum look what i did'. I was the first of the people i know to have it done. I did it because i liked the way it looked, and now how it feels.

I can't pretend that my partner doesn't like them and that the way he reacts to them doesn't make me feel good but it wasn't the reason i originally had them done.

whats with the brain dead posts you just dont understand, and you might or never will... its just about being yourself and doing what the **** you want whether people like it or not, im not digging at you.

its about unique to us, we dont follow trends :)

not meant to sound at a dig at you by the way sorry for it sounding that way.

If I wasnt asking then I would never understand. As it currently stands, I dont understand, no.

Is it not abundantly clear that I am trying to rectify that?

For the first time in a long time:

EDIT:

Neon - its not unique. How many people do you know that have been peirced? How different do you feel knowing that almost every single woman has a piercing?

From an "outsiders" point of view you just punch holes in yourself for a laugh - something that is (in my current view) either a cry for attention or a cry for help depending on how you go about it. To my mind (at the moment) having multiple rings/bars through various parts of you isnt that far removed from cutting yourself.

y'know i used to find you quite officious penski, but now ive seen you say "prince albertina, yo!" i take it all back!

i'm not for body mods/piercings myself but this thread really isnt about piercings if you think about it.

its about general hygene standards! ive used Staph. Aureus in the lab plenty of times, not deadly strains, but i know that if i dont wear gloves and clean up after myself maticulously (sp) i'm gonna have a bad case of the squits!

if the piercer was clean, and she knew the risks and kept the piercing clean herself then she might still be alive today, its a sad fact but its true.

penski, how many mods do you have btw? drop me an email (in trust) if you've got a spare minute, as whilst i'm not for getting them in myself they do interest me :)

It's hardly unique, millions of people worldwide have piercings you're never going to find anything that is truely unique.
For a start i got my first ever piercing following a trend.
As far as i know Neon you have no mods, to be honest you never understand fully until you have some.

its very unique blackstar when its done like you have, i do understand being around people who have them done a lot, since i was small.

If thats what it takes, I will go and get a piercing. I bet you anything I still dont "understand", probably because I am not an attention seeker.

Its no coincidence that at least 75% of the people I have met with piercings/tats have veiwpoints that are at odds with what is "normal" or "sensible", have an air of pseudo-intelligence about them and often seek to belittle people that do not conform to their rejection of "normality".

Out of interest - that include me?

Avis said her death might be "an extreme example" of what can occur when people have lips, tongues, eyebrows, genitals and other body parts punctured in the name of fashion.

In the name of fashion? I got my lip pierced and i didnt do it for fashion status. Its nothing to do with being different, as the particular piercing i have is nothing out of the ordinary, i see loads of people with it. Do i care? no, its just like someone having brown hair like me, or someone having brown eyes like me. Im sure some people out there have stupid reasons for getting tats/piercings, mine however, are truly personal :)

On topic though, feel bad for the girl, I really wouldnt have thought this could happen from something so minor

i'm not meaning to pick on you here, nothing personal, and i'm not saying its a bad thing you had it done, but why did you have it done? if you've stated specifically that it was not for fashion status. what was it for?

You were actually a refreshing change from the "normal". I was genuinely suprised for the better.

I still dont know why you feel the need to do what you do to yourself though.

Its not like I have a huge hate for them or those that do choose to do it to themselves but ever since I came across them for the first time I have wondered why and I have NEVER had a satisfactory answer. It is often the usual BS or an "I dont really know".

Maybe it is too individual to be a general reason but if you look at the general profile of someone who has been "modified" they are often too similar for there not to be some commonality.

I think a lot of the annoying pierced people tend to be younger, and do enjoy the attention/shock/whatever.

I don't really know what my reasons are. It's going to the usual BS from me I'm afraid, I just get urges, it appeals to me, so I do it. I don't really know aside from that.

hmmmm good question, and to be honest I dont know. It really was a spur of the moment thing, i walked past, was with my girlfriend, she said i should get something pierced, so i did. Nothing more to it than spur of the moment. Same with the tatoo, althought its only a small thing on my wrist, it was again, a spur of the moment thing that i got done.

Not to do with fashion, i have always had the opinion that tatoo's arent individual, like ozzy said, if you want to be different, dont get a tatoo. I do a lot of things spur of the moment, i bought a laptop last week when i was drunk, now i have to sell it, silly man i am. :) hope that answers your question

edit: after re-reading what i wrote it really doesnt answer your question. And although a lot of people probably answer with this, i really dont know why i did it. honestly, thinking back i have no idea what made me do it.

See, this was part of my point - when pressed, a lot of people boil it down to this - they just did it without thought and without knowing why.

It is from that point that it becomes so personal and whatnot and maybe its the way I am but one day I would think about it and just take it off and bin it as it was pointless.

Having said that, I cant even stand to wear a ring or neck chain because I just dont see the point...

I didn't quite understand what you are saying, are you saying that you don't wear rings etc because they are pointless?

I think a lot of things are pointless, but some things mean more to some people, i wear a couple of beaded bracelets, because my ex gave them to me and i like to be reminded of her. Perhaps things come down to personal stuff like that? who knows?

now we've got down that far, lets go a little bit deeper. what made you choose lip when you got in there?

and to this, i have the same sentiments. the only jewelry i wear is a titanium ring (ex bought it for me) and a shark tooth pendant that i was bought from gran canaria cause i couldnt go :(

I only said that because maybe it is relevant to why I dont "get it".

I dont wear a ring because every time I have had one, I wear it for a day and take it off and never bother to put it back on - same goes for bracelets and chains.

If I had a personal reason to wear one, I would wear one. Perhaps if I get engaged or married I would wear one because it means something (like your bracelets).

If I applied that way of thinking to this discussion, it would mean that I would never get peirced on the spur of the moment because it would mean nothing and just become an irritation to me. Id rather take it out than do what most seem to do and spin up some "you wont ever understand" crap or "it means something so personal you wont ever know".

It might read that I am tarring all with the same brush but I am not trying to - I just generally get a response that given me the impressions I have today.
