Debadging

chavs want to race me because my car is debadged and think im not packing much heat under the bonnet lol

I doubt they even notice you given that every other car on the road is a 320d M Sport these days which looks the same. They probably think you are on your way to another sales team breifing.

I'm quite tempted to debadge mine purely for the minimalist look on the back, seen quite a few debadged 1'ers and they look quite good

Chavs don't race anyone round these parts, they just spend all evening around McDonald's carparks and stuff being all ASBO and "stuff" ¬_¬

i always get this little VXR thing up my chuff. hes works in the kwik fit in the city and drives me nuts. thinks hes schumacher or something...

It's a real shame how they've diluted the 'Sport' side of things by making it available with every engine size. These days you can buy a 116i M Sport - 10 years ago if you wanted any Sport model the absolute smallest engine you could get on a 3 Series or above was a 2.8 litre Straight Six. 9/10 M Sport models you see these days are 2.0 diesels.

Dad had a debadged 540i. He always said its better to be a wolf in sheeps clothing!

Id go for the debadge, looks much nicer imo.

I kept the 540i on mine, most don't know it's a V8 4.4 as the exhausts are all nicely hidden up.

Also I don't think many regular drivers would know what 540 means anyway.

Any prospective theif of a modern BMW (infact a modern anything) would need to do a theft of the car with keys - it'll be stolen following a break in probably. So unless you park right next to your next door neighbours 318i it probably makes no difference at all.

My point is still valid. If the the thief was simply an opportunist who did not have a clue about car security and say just wanted to joyride, it would still be the 330 he would go for. Bigger numbers mean bigger and better things.

This thread is turning out to be quite funny, all of a sudden 330s are some kind of exotica that are stolen to order.

True enough, but the 320d / 520d are,in the real world, as quick as the 328i / 528i of 10 years ago.

Its nothing to do with performance though, its all down to marketing.

"Sport" sells.

Obviously you get the odd person who genuinely wants to be descrete, even if it is to have some fun with chavs, but badges don't generally look bad,

Put it this way you don't see many genuine BMW M series cars de badged, it is always the 320i etc.

but oh yeah it looks so much better. ;)

lol.

I know you are desperate for somebody to take the bait so you can point out how peasantlike and slow a 330i is compared to a Mercedes S55 AMG or a Subaru but I dont thnk anyone is bothered :p

People DO steal 330i's (And S-Line Audi's, remember the guy with the utterly dull Q5 2.0 TDI?) to order although I doubt this happens much with older E46's.

Not at all, you know where my stance is on badging, i.e. badging an s320 as an s55 or s55 to s65. Anyone who they are trying to impress with the badging will notice the differences between the models, those who aren't able to will not really give a stuff what you've put on the back because to them it's just a normal s class barge or 3 series bmw.

Well no, they are not.

Look at the figures, theres next to nothing in it.

Perhaps a second difference in 0-60 and a few MPH difference on top speed.

Given that most drivers don't use max speed nor use maximum 0-60 capability, as I say, in the real world there is nothing in it imo. (Bar double the MPG of the Diesel!)

Your the chap with the figures Fox, post them, is there REALLY that much of a difference? more to the point, a difference that the majority of drivers would notice or care about?

Yep, its not as if the SE is that bad anymore either - it does come with a lot more kit than before.
