Delayed purchase of PC games

I buy most of my games on release (on Steam.) Not that I`m well off or anything but I think a good game combined with the convenience of Steam worth the £30.

I do my research though in forms of reading reviews(including peoples feedback on forums) and watching a few game play videos.

I bought Xcom recently and already put 30 hrs in it. I also bought Dishonored and haven`t even started it yet as Xcom keeps me busy :p

Then again I only buy a few games a year on Steam the rest of the time I replay old titles or find something on GOG for a fiver.

Do you lot have a console too and do you pay nearer full price for those?

And we wonder why most games are console ports when everyone wants a cheap game :)
I don't play games often and now prefer to pay < 10. I held off buying Metro 2033 which was only £14.99 until it came down really cheap on Steam recently (£3.74 if I remember correctly).
REally, these days £14.99 is not a lot of money is it? Buy some decent organic chicken breast and it's £7-£8. A pizza takeaway is how much with a few extras? A good indian takeaway can easily be £13. Games can provide many hours of fun especially spread out over a long period (if you dont play games often) and we only want to spend £5-£10 on them.

It would be fine, but one of the games I really enjoy is Battlefield 3 (And BC2, and BF2, etc - The problem more so with the modern 'level up!!' games), if you don't get on the multiplayer and start ranking up asap, learning all the levels with everyone else and getting the upgrades, it can be such an uphill struggle when you do finally join in months later - Everyone has figured out the best combos, all the vantage points and cubbyholes. You feel like you've just bought a knife to a gun fight.

I've not played BF3 for ages but I reckon if I were to jump into a game now, along with wondering where everyone had now gone and what DLC maps I was missing, I'd just get continuously battered for a few weeks until I caught up. For casual gamers (read: Not students :p), it's a bit annoying.

I only buy games on launch now if I'm going to play them straight away. I was looking to cancel my Medal of Honor Warfighter pre order. Then noticed I only paid for £22 for it, so I decided to keep the pre order open.

Unless its Fifa or COD, most games drop below £20 within a month so its best to wait.

There are a few games Ill pre order. GW2 was one, ArmA3 will be another. These are games I know for a fact I will play for another 5 years to come at least Ill be taking part in all the alpha/beta events I can too.

For the most part I hit the steam sales most games being 6 months to a year old on the sales. enough time to be patched and functioning and also dirt cheap while still remaining somewhat topical and fresh.

Only pre ordered a few games recently that was BF3, Skyrim and GW2. I definitely hold on with indie type games like Chivalry for example as I know that will go down in price.

I am also holding out for Borderlands 2, it dropped to something crazy like 12 quid the other day on hotukdeals.

I rarely buy at launch unless absolutley dying to play it
because of

A. Bugs
B. Urine extracting prices

IL2 COD , I was so looking forward to this and it turned out crap, glad I waited until it was £8

On the other hand I will be pre ordering Arma3 because it will be epic
