I know it's not the perfect example but...

If you were to rent a film from Blockbuster and then take it back a week or so late, accruing some late fees in the process, then went back on a seperate occasion to rent another film, what would you expect to happen?

Last time I did that I found that my account had been suspended until I paid the late fees.

why would you expect it? He didn't renew his subscription but they kept it live for two months and then expect him to pay for it even though he didn't use or ask for it!!! Then they hold your account with games purchased to ransom until you pay up - sounds like they are being right ****'s to me!

If you don't cancel your Live! subscription, they automatically try to renew it (which is extremely crappy imo).

It's unfortunate that the chap was away as they probably sent the odd email or two notifying him of the situation.

Either way it is no way to treat a customer that has spent a lot of money on your product.

Now I totally agree with you there.

Even though I said it's what I'd expect them to do, in no way do I think it's right.

He didn't tell him he wanted to cancel it and it's not their fault he didn't use it...

Say if he had not been away and he had been using the service playing GOW etc online then do you still think it would be unfair for them to charge him for a service he used?

Xbox live is not something that is used 100% of the time, you can't randomly call them 12 months into your subscription and ask for 11 months back because you chose not to use it for 11 months.

It is a little weird that they kept the account open when the card details were wrong, I would at least moan and expect half of it back... But at the end of the day... Its like £8 ? Whats the problem. I'd have paid them already.

When the subscription expired it should have defaulted back to silver whether he wanted or tried to use the gold subscription or not.

If I pay for a magazine for a year I don't expect them to keep sending me copies of it after the 12 months is up.

He is not asking for 2 months of it back for free. He paid for 12 months. If they gave him 2 more months that he did not request then that is not his fault it is their fault.

His account should have downgraded to silver at the expiry date and that should be that.

But it tells you that when the year finishes it automatically renews, if he didn't want it any more he should have cancelled it.

Had this exact same problem from my account back when I played Halo 2 on Live.

Tried to use the same account a couple of months ago and I was banned for exactly the same reason, ended up starting a new account called "Mr Zefan"... how annoying.

Mine doesn't as I only use those scratch off card things, none of my CC details are on Live!
I wasn't aware of what you have just said.

There not letting me just pay for 2 months...They want the 39.99 or nothing...

What if you give them 2 of the 1 month subscription codes?
If you pay for 12 months can you cancel after 1 month and get 11 months refunded?

Ive been away for 2 months and as such havent really had much time on the internet or a phone.

I got home yesterday and turn on my xbox to find my account suspended. I phone up to see whats going on, and am told that my account is banned and as such unusable, they will not (or cannot according to the guy on the phone) reactivate it. Seeing as my xbox died earlier this year due to the inherent design fault I no longer have the original console or the gamertag that over £50 worth of DLC is linked to.

The reason my account is banned is because I did not pay for the gold membership as my card details were out of date, and so they were trying to charge a non existant card I didnt have access to the xbox and so could not update the details. I got an email to say my gold membership had been cancelled but nothing of an account suspension or ban.

Just spent 40 mins on the phone with a guy who basically told me that microsoft dont care about me as a customer...which was nice.

Just make another account?
