Just make another account?

He will lose all his content purchased off of the marketplace if his Xbox 360 breaks down (which it probably will).

It sucks, they really need to sort out the DRM. I was exchanging phonecalls with them for 4 months before they sorted the problem out.

I know it's not the perfect example but...

If you were to rent a film from Blockbuster and then take it back a week or so late, accruing some late fees in the process, then went back on a seperate occasion to rent another film, what would you expect to happen?

Last time I did that I found that my account had been suspended until I paid the late fees.
Not a good example at all tbh. Renting something and having a subscription automatically renew are two completely different things.

I could have rented a car for a week but then after taking it back i wouldn't expect them to park it outside my house for another week and charge me for it!!!

I know that similar things happen in Business wit h telephone, gas and electric etc... unless you cancel before the contract ends it automatically renews - however in business you have absolutely no recourse as you should have read any small print but as a private customer terms like these should be very clearly pointed out.

I very much doubt that this is MS's actual poilcy which is wrong but rather it's down to poorly trained staff thinking they know whats right. The fact is that when the c/card was declined they should have stoppped service and the fact they didn't for two months is their error.

From what I've read paying for gold with your credit card sounds really poorly done by MS.

I would just buy them from retailers in the future, you will also save yourself a few quid doing it that way.

I would if it didnt mean I would lose all my DLC as robot pointed out...Im not too fussed about gamerscore etc...

New Development any how... Ive changed to a recent card, they've taken the payment off me (39.99) and now my account is Silver not Gold...what fun! Cue a third 40 minute phonecall with useless staff.
So you just paid an extra 39.99 to cover 2 months worth of unpaid for Live?

I would definately write in to some magazine after this affair - it will help make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

So let me get this right, They've requested you pay for 12 months Gold subs which had run out 2 months ago, i.e you have 10 months left.

Surely you could just pay for the 2 months (£10) and renew it when your ready?

If this is the case then legally their in the wrong, as they are basically forcing you to buy a 12 month subscription that you may not want or need :(

Although from personal experience I remember having a ding dong with them when I tried to move from Gold to Silver. They don't seem to like you cancelling your subs...

In the end I cancelled my card, and shortly after traded my 360 in.

I agree, replacement console which was a refurb & previously modded sounds more plausible.
Not possible, warranty seal would be broken from opening it in the first place, so you wouldn't get a replacement.

Not really since that isn't an option in the 3 Live price packages.

It isnt very hard to take the warranty seal off without breaking it if you are careful.

He didn't tell him he wanted to cancel it and it's not their fault he didn't use it...

Say if he had not been away and he had been using the service playing GOW etc online then do you still think it would be unfair for them to charge him for a service he used?

Xbox live is not something that is used 100% of the time, you can't randomly call them 12 months into your subscription and ask for 11 months back because you chose not to use it for 11 months.

It is a little weird that they kept the account open when the card details were wrong, I would at least moan and expect half of it back... But at the end of the day... Its like £8 ? Whats the problem. I'd have paid them already.

Xbox live is not a retrospective payment plan... it's pre-pay, no credit rating *****.

If he didn't pay for the service they shouldn't have given him the service - simple as that. If they did it's their fault & seeing as they are holding £50 worth of purchased games to ransom I would call trading standards at least, I can't imagine what the legal implications of this are.

There will not have been any credit agreement so they have no right to suspend the account.

No swearing.

Very Well Put

This whole thing has made me a little worried tbh. I traded my 360 for a UK PS3 with someone in MM. It had about 10-11 months of Live account left on it, which I said the other guy may as wel have. I went into the options and changed my card expiry date to a bogus one as thats all it would let me do - it wouldnt let me delete it or anything. Now I'm concerned that when it comes to renewal they will just charge me again - I should have writtne the date down of when i took out the membership... D'oh!

I see what you're saying, but my main point is that its only a couple of £ anyways, to me thats nowhere near enough to get even remotely annoyed over.
