This is a bit OT but are subscription cancellations still handled solely over the phone?

It seems a bit ridiculous that you can buy the subscription through the market place yet you cannot cancel it on the internet or via the marketplace. The auto renewal is also very irritating, this means if i dont want a live subscription next year i have to bother to ring them up to cancel(i hate using phones anyway), im definately getting a sub card next time to avoid this mess.
I dont know how a company so big can be so retarded. im glad i havent been in a similar situation to the op

No point starting a new thread for it and I used the search facility. (yay for me)

Just spent the best part of 20 minutes on the phone to an Xbox 360 rep who didn't know what a play & charge kit was. I had to describe the item and its use three times and after the second time he nearly sent me out the part of the controller that holds 2 AA batteries.

I'm fairly liberal on the phone at the best of times, especially with customer service, but that's been one of the worst I've had so far.

Sounds harsh then, keep trying them and keep explaining what's happened.

Never personally heard of anyone being banned for not being able to pay a sub, it should have just reverted to Silver surely?

I know one person that this has happened too and he never got his account back. Even if your XBox was modded they only ban the box not the account from XBL.

same happened to me, had to pay up 12 months for 6 because they said id been in default for 6. its a huge and most likely illegal con, card expires and they block your access to live, then they keep building up charges and when you want to get back on you gotta clear em. Ghey! Although i spoke to a nice yank lass who refunded me 10% and said that what i shoulda done is asked for my account to be downgraded to silver and done it every day for a week until i was told that it was already silver, then i shoulda been able to pop online and re-sub or enter a code.
