although frodo wasn't in the book would he have been in bilbo's life and around at the time? if so i doubt he's changing the story too much but perhaps adding a small bit of story that could/would have happened. i suspect it'll be more like a cameo so not a major part for frodo, perhaps just an introduction to gandalf.

i'd say fans of the movies will be expecting to see frodo if he's alive at the time and in bilbio's life any way

Wait Frodo? How is Frodo in it? In fact quite a few of those weren't in the book

Im sure i read somewhere that PJ is suppose to be doing hobbit in 1 film, then another one that he is writing the story for to bridge the gap between the 2.

I could be wrong, but ill try to find the webby i found it off.

Oh god I hoped that was a joke :(

He's going to do it again isn't he :(

Do what?

I can't wait for this, I know they are changing bits from the book, but I trust him to do it well. I loved LoTR, probably my favourite trilogy of all time, so I just hope this will be as good. I think the Hobbit, because its a simpler book overall to the LoTR trilogy often has bits that are glossed over. I think there was an example of where Gandalf goes to the White Council. In the book it says he goes to the White Council, whilst in the film they are going to be filling in the gaps.

As someone else has already mentioned - what the hell is Frodo doing in The Hobbit - he doesn't feature at all in the book.

I'm looking forward to who is going to play Tom Bombadil - should be interesting!

Legolas is also not in the book, yet there he is.

I wonder if they'll even keep Bombadil. Removing him from LOTR was a great move. The character is epic but it just wouldnt work in moving picture.

If Frodo et al are in it I can see it opening with Bilbo telling Frodo the story in post LoTR trilogy flashback. So perhaps they are more of cameo roles.

Mess with the source material.

I'm a huge fan of the books and loved the movies even more. The changes he made worked perfectly for the screen, in my opinion. He was never, ever, going to be able to make it 100% faithful to the books.

So, I trust PJ to do the same here. If Frodo is in it, then I'm sure it will be well done and add something to the movies.

Well he messed with it quite a bit :p

Yeah, but all three were still brilliant films.

I think you're trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Jackson was trusted with LoTR and pulled it off brilliantly, and I'm sure he can repay the faith he's been given in what he does with this.

no he wasnt, in the hobbit, bilbo is stated as being 50 years old, in LOTR frodo is coming of age at 33 and its bilbos eleventy first birthday, putting it 60 years after the events of the hobbit, so no, frodo was nowhere near being about

bombadil was never in the hobbit, do you mean the beorn character that morphs into a bear by any chance

edit... forgot to mention, somebody said legolas wasnt in the hobbit, no, but elves are immortal, and created at the same time as the world, and he is the son of thranduil, who is in the hobbit, so he definately would have been around at the time if you want to be technical with timelines of the middle earth world

ok well then maybe frodo is being added at the end of the hobbit so it nicely rolls into lotr. it could also be he's in some flash forward style clip showing what will happen (god i hope not). it's hard to say until we know exactly what the plans are.
