Delidding 4770K

I'll run some stuff like realbench etc this weekend, how's the new cpu bud?
Seems to be a better chip even at stock mate. Lower vid of 1.200 vs 1.264 on the first one. Definitely keeping this un. Gotta start clocking it up once i get some time. Off work all next week so ill have a good chance to do so.

Awesome stuff bud, chuffed for you, about time you got something decent.

Let us know what you manage to get out of it ;).

hoo bloody raah:D

I dunno how people have the guts/balls to do this. Especially on a CPU that costs so much. I've got an Fx-8350 and when I was handling it, I was SO careful with it. I don't think I could never take a knife to my CPU (not one I'd just bought anyway) maybe one that's from an old PC that was doing to the thrown out, but spending like £200 on a CPU and then cutting the top off . . . Not for me that. All power to the people that do it tho, your braver than me :)

If you are careful the worse that can really happen is you chop of some of the VRM components which can be replaced or soldered back on.

It's worth it for the difference if you are not bothered about the warranty.

It doesn't sound too bad, but still way to scary for me at the minute. . .:(

Very tempted to scalp this new one I've got, though tbh I only need it to be game stable at 4.6-4.7ghz Ono, where temps don't really matter that much.

I'd say go for it:D go slow, be patient and i'm 100% positive that you'll have a cooler running cpu in no time at all.

Any questions or help though bud feel free to ask.

If your chip is cool enough as is I would not bother on a new one. I'm running this 4770k @ 4.6ghz and have no need for any more. Other than benchmarks there is no real need.

What temps are you getting at 4.6ghz on your new cpu ?

If you do decide to "scalp" it setter, do so with extreme care. It's taken you this long to find a top chip your happy with ..... :D

i should have my 4770k next week. no way im doing this lol.
just know something will go wrong!

Tbh guys id only need to scalp it to push high clocks on the likes of p95, ibt etc. Yes some will say that theese programs are still relevant for testing an oc. Im predominately a gamer, as long as a cpu can run the games i play im happy. Mainly bf4 theese days, a game that does benefit from a multi threaded cpu. And as i want to go sli gtx 780, a high clocked cpu will help. And of course i like to run the odd benchmark as well. New cpu is still at stock at present, if i can get it to 4.8 below 1.35v ill be happy enough. And tbh, a 4790k at stock is not a bottleneck in games i play with a gtx 780. I just enjoy the fun of overclocking, albeit on a very amateur scale.

im actually thinking i will only keep this a few months so i suspect that delidding will only hinder resale especially as all warranty will be void

I'm tempted to delid myself if my DC chip isn't good. One question I have is will my h100i sit correctly after the procedure? I'd imagine removing the IHS glue probably makes a mm or so difference so I presume the answer is no.

it shouldn't affect the seating of the cooler imo

the paste will makeup for any larger gaps if any, only fractions of a mm if that

I had a feeling I was overthinking it. Thanks. If my temps can stay under 80 when gaming with a decent clock then I shan't bother tbh.

After re-applying liquid metal as thin as possible and a tweak of settings I now have my 4770k running at 4.8ghz using 1.285v with a max temp on Prime/Ibt of 75.c after hours of testing. Gaming it barely touches 60.c.

With the liquid metal I have found spreading it as thin as physically possible makes quite a difference.

De-lidding and using liquid metal for me has lost nearly 20.c which is nice.
