So tempted by one of these! :(

Some quick Q's:

- Could I swap out the HDD for a SSD?
- How long did it take from you placing the order to it arriving on your doorstep?

Worried I won't get it until the New Year if I order now :(

I will investigate the HDD swap in a moment and post back but for the other Q it took 10 days for me to get mine. They allocate a random courier though it seems so you may get it later or even sooner than that timeframe.

Edit**
I tried to open the back case up to get to the HDD but it's more tricky than the NC10 and I don't want to snap anything while it's still under warranty just yet heh!

Cheers mrk! Must.. resist.. urge.. to.. order :(

Would probably go the same route as you config-wise. Not sure on the battery though... not sure if I'd mind the extra inch or so at the back for the extra 5 or so hours battery.

Not sure if I should hold off to see if any other similar netbooks are coming out. Decisions!

Shame I didn't see the UL30Vt-x1 before getting the 13z ! looks great especially for 10 hours battery life according to one user review with the cpu overclocked to 1.73GHz.

It costs a bit more at present though if the discount given by Dell continues but without the discount I'd look at the Asus above especially if you're a notebook gamer, less so if you use it for HD/General use though as in that area they'd be neck neck!

Dependant on how flush I'm feeling, I may treat myself over the couple of weeks, going to the states and can pick it up for $800...

I'm only tempted by the asus as it's a lot sleaker looking than the 13z, worldwide warranty, and I'd like to play some games on it as I often have to do weekend support in the office, which I generally have nothing to do so the odd bit of gaming would go down a treat. :)

Well if you do get it post pics/thoughts/trackpad performance etc and actual battery results :p

One of my requirements was battery life, 4hrs will do me for the moment with the hope of a 6 or slim 8 cell release from Dell but if that never happens I'll have to move on next year but I'm just concerned with the trackpads on other notebooks/netbooks as I really do like the Synaptics one in the 13z as it's so smooth and accurate and none I've used before on a notebook this size has been as good.

Dude, I'd have to sit there for 10hrs - I'd be bored ****less! I'll probably do a gaming test, that'll be a good test of the battery life, see how long it can last whilst playing HL2 or something.

That's good enough :p

I'll probably do the wise thing though and keep the 13z until the day when notebooks are as thin as mobile phones.

That will certainly be the day!

Afterall the 13z does do everything I need :p

Do it man do it!

I did a test over night, left it in sleep mode on just battery power and 9 hours later looked at the battery meter, 85% left.

Not too bad I guess.

My order status is showing as shipped today (05/12/09) :D on the Dell order status page, ordered it on Tuesday (01/12/09).

I understand it'll take a few days for the tracking link to become active, do I just wait on the automated phone call now to arrange delivery?

Delivery phone call is just to tell you when it will arrive, not when you want it to arrive :p

You can ring them to rearrange though, I did.

Had quick look at mine. The colour is good, and this is a pretty thin machine. The Keira Knightly of Laptops ;)
