you are comparing a top of the range 19" 4X3 to a bottom of the range 24" 16X10, dont expect the best quality at a dell price point but certainly looks like great value for money for non professional use.

but its a top-end panel from Samsung.

Dont let all that price stuff fool you. My Apple 23" wasnt exactly a graphics professionals dream.

yup, be intersting to see what other manufacturers come up with using that panel, interesting what you said about the apple, mate of mine returned his as he wasn't too happy with it considering the price (this was before the price drops).

Oh, also, am i right in thinking its 178/178 viewing angle? The Apple was poor with this. It also had a poor backlight.

Oh, and something to look forward to. All Samsung displays come with guaranteed zero dead pixels! I wonder if this implies all Samsung PANELS.

dell will have to sort their build quality issue they currently have, after all thats why so many of their current tfts suffer with backlight issues, its not the panels per sa, its the damage thats done to them when being installed in their dell casing

Agreed. They should sort those messy, fat fugly designs too.

I doubt that Dell will be passing on that promise sadly, but even if they did I'm not all that impressed with zero dead pixel policies anyway as black or white pixel faults are rare. Now if they were promising zero dead sub-pixels that would be a different matter.

Good work on the review Kev, shouldnt you be doing summit else though ;)
I just flew threw the review but did it mentione anything on progressive scan or the picture and picture modes?

Expecting the highest in quality from a Dell is a little eager. Its great that prices will fall and the overall products improve. The specs and connectivity are very good too, makes it an ideal TV/PC product.

Samsung was said to have a 174p at the CES but i think they might revise the P series with faster panels. A 24p model would just be the ticket eh but at what price their MP series is just incredibly expensive and a bare bones model just might have a simular performance to the Dell.

I think it will come down to Sony Samsung and possibly LG if they all produce models on this panel. Were in for an interesting year, and its only started. Apples have a sell by date now for sure.

Guys thinking of matching different types of panels are in for a bit of work, its not always easy to get an even white balance accurate across 2 or 3 different displays.

IIRC all Dell monitors are assembled at the BenQ HQ (as Dell outsource to them for their monitor manufacturing) and use BenQ manufactured casings which have the Dell brand logo replaced onto them. If that is the case why don't we hear more on BenQ original branded monitors sufffering the same problems as the Dell TFT's ?

I don't think Benq market an equivalent to the 2005FWP and it is only this model that has been attracting the criticsm regarding the backlight.

Good stuff but if you search the brands own site has loads of info particulary in the service section regarding all its options specs and functions.

Its to release at £850 if whats been rumoured is true, this is definately going to be a big big selling display.

* Must add that its really looking a bit special from those shots, again thanks for the post l0oney

Damn if my eyes aint deceiving me this baby does indeed run GT4 in 480p & 1080i, very interesting.

This is fantastic if this supports 480p via component and considering its specs and additional inputs PIP & PAP etc this makes it the best allround screen ever both for TV and Pc purposes. OMG how long have i waited for something like this.

This panel is based on a Samsung Industrial Panel. PVA usually kicks ass too, damn I want one now, no I think I want two...

These monitors are being sold inJapan and Australia, the US and Europe is soon to follow. I will be phoning for a pre order tomorrow and will get the price for those who are interested.

It looks great from the thumbs and the specs.

Apparently there is no official price yet but its looking more and more like its going to be under £1000. If that the case there are going to be some very cheap Apple monitors about pretty soon!! I suppose we all win...

Yes but that Panel has been used in industrial models.
The funny thing is the rated specs for Contrast Brightness are completely different.

What will be interesting is how well it scales. Most people systems particulary with always more advanced games arriving like BF2 STALKER wont be able to run this at native, thats one of my big concerns. Desktop will be great but its going to require a fairly meaty machine to make the most of it.
