Your right ofcoarse, it will require a meaty machine. If you are going to buy a monitor like this and you are into gaming. You can obviously afford the latest and greatest so you would have the required spec machine to play the games you enjoy @ native res!!

The advantage for those who haven't the money to spend on the Dell2405, is what happens to the market when the monitor has been around for a month or so. Cheaper screens for everyone. So its good news for everyone!!

this monitor will be the excuse I need to do a new rig :D been waiting ages on something to tax it..

assuming it is supported at native res by HL2 (& hopefully Doom 3 engine games also) I'll be getting it ..

I'm running over 200 fps on cs:source at the mo on the 2005fpw native res.

Its not good news for everyone, some people just spent well over a grand on shall we say a highly regarded brand named produict that isnt a patch on this.

Oh well I tried to warn some folk things like these were comming.....

true, but then again theres always better around the corner, Samsung are no doubt working on bigger panels right now..

Another positve is the fact that Samsung are the manufacturers of this panel rather than LG who where responsible for the problems people had/having with the Dell2005, Samsung also guarantee pixel perfection!! Lets hope so......

By the way the price is £729 ex vat. which by my calculation is about £850 which was muted...this price has supposedly been confirmed.

Give me the option or a date for a Samsung model sporting the same features and lucious Porsche styling and Id take it, just nothing seems to be arriving anythime soon from them is the problem. The 242MP is not worth the extra at all, bar the remote this seems to do everything and more for a fraction of the cost.

Indeed other brands will source the same panel, Ive alrady said in the past this is a big year for 24" panels replacing 19" for people wanting hi end displays.

Just imagine a stylish Sony X Black model, no doubt it will appear but this one in question is about to ship, some people just wont wait.
Will Ironfire be going for 3 24"?

Unless they have changed their policy, they guarantee zero dead pixels, i.e. no fixed black or white pixels, still a long way from perfection as sub-pixel errors are not covered.

We also need to hear Dell confirm they are making that offer as you can't take a Dell screen back to Samsung.

Ok we will all be eyeballing for a review mate.

Id be interested in knowing what you are still currently using for a display and how you aim to test or compare against it. That link you provided earlier showed a lot of usefull stuff but it will be great to have someone here give their comments.

Apart from build quality and looks it has to be the best TFT ever.

I rekon once you post some pics quite a few will be wanting one of these mate. Personally Id have to buy two if decided to change, just Im so used to multimonitors now having one doesnt feel right and that would be a bit hard on the pocket even selling my own to help purchase.

Maybe one day...

My trigger finger is itching to give my credit card a beating it won't forget in a hurry ;)
Been waiting for a screen like this since middle of last year and I too await Loony's review...

Ok thanks for reply mate.
I wasnt still sure if you had the Medion. It just depends on whether you can get over the hysteria of using this peace of kit which no doubt youll be eager to get going. Theirs little doubt it will be a great display particulary in viewing angles and colour performance. Weve both experienced the Medion and know its flaws so if possible Id like to see tests done on:

Black level panel leakage, black level performance and colour/brightness/contrast consistancy across the whole panel.
I found this to be were the Medion suffered a bit. These tests are easily done moreso in a dark room with the Xp loading screen and a black desktop. Be interesting to hear if this still quite large panel has any issues in this area.

Scaling performance, do games have increased blurring with lack of fine detail or additional artifacts and is text more jagged?
Its my personal opnion PVA scales better than TN, maybe thats just been the case on past models Ive compared but for many it will be important to enjoy games at varying resolutions. If you can have a go with word etc too as text is a good way of testing.

Appreciate what you can do anyways and best of luck...

I called yesterday to order and was told that that my order would not be placed until the monitor was made available for shipment to the UK.

I rang again today and was informed that there the monitor will not be available in the UK for a further 2 weeks, or more precisely 15 days.

This to me is not a problem as I have a few things to do in preparation for its arrival, but it may come as a blow to others.

LMFAO

Dell's telephone support based in India is fantastic, not only is it hard to hold a conversation due to the fact that they don't have a proper grasp on English, they do not have a clue about any of there products.

I've had several interesting telephone conversations with Dell today, trying to establish just when this monitor is going to be ready for UK release and they do not have the faintest idea. Many have not even heard of the Monitor and leave me waiting for several minutes while going to find someone who does. I suppose to a certain degree that is to be expected due to the monitor being a new line, but shouldn't your staff be aware of your newest and latest products?

Its very hard having a telephone conversation with someone who does not have a grasp of British/American colloquialisms. When making enquiries I am continually repeating myself. Dont get me wrong they are very very helpful and polite, but it does make gaining the information you want/need that bit harder.

I have now been told that the monitor will be delivered to me in around 8 days time. That the monitor will not be available in the UK for atlease 2 weeks and now!!! I have been informed that the monitor will not reach British shores until April.

So make of it what you will!!!!

i tried calling dell , i speak a bit of urdu, and gujrati but altho very polite they were clueless and told me to speak in english to them. 20mins of trying to explain *** i wanted i said good bye and hung up. and going to try and get this screen same place i got me dell 2001fp from that bloke in scotland.

OK I have ordered!! ( well pre-ordered )

Had a nice little chat with a lady from an India, yes it seems Dell to is following the lead of many banks moving there tele-sales to India. ( I'll use General chat for my politics on that one though )

The price of the monitor was £850 and delvery will be withing 5 working days of placing the order. Although I have pre-ordered the transaction will not actually take effect until the 1st or 2nd of March from that point it will be 5 working days.

Will ther be any others going for it!!!

Nice one LOony! :)

24" WS is my dream desktop size and I am itching to get one of these puppies. I run a couple of Dell 2001FP's and after a little measuring, the Dell 24" gives an extra 2" on either side and is about the same height as my Dell 20".
The height was an important issue for me and I could not bear to lose anymore by going for the intermediary Dell WS 20"...The 2405FPW hits that sweet spot for sure.

I will wait until I get feed back from the doshed-up members and then wait for the prices to drop somewhere down the line. If money was not an issue for me Loony, I would be speaking to miss Patel right now m8.

I'll be sitting here with the popcorn-a-ready as soon as you get yours fired up and post back with results.

Good luck!

S!ap

I also phoned Del to inquire about a price and when it was to be released, same answer, not sure in the next couple of weeks, lets hope that working for a Dell service partner i can get a nice discount:)
