DELL 2407 Arrives at OcUK!!

Very nice screen there. You can clearly see the banding in that second picture. I don't know what that chip does myself, we'll have to wait for Baddass to say. However, in the first picture theres no banding at all, looks very good. Can't wait to get my 2007 :D, if only I had enough money for the 24" :( .

Hi, this is my first post.

Looking to buy 2407, is the delivery date 2/06/06 confirmed, as i've noticed it's slipped twice now! If not anybody got any ideas where I can get one before the weekend? Dell are quoting 3+ Weeks!!!!!

Just been paid and money burning a whole in my pocket!

:p :p

15 days is what dell have said, this maybe down to the recent revison change..

Are you using a DVI for these tests, does changing to VGA make any difference ?

I don't know what the other modes do all they seem to change is the brightness and contrast slightly. The screen looks great in desktop mode with no dead/stuck pixels and no visible lag, Tryed BF2 looks as good as on my old monitor(iiyama pro454)and was only running it at 1280*1024, Pictures show one in desktop and one in game mode. Baddass what does the Faroudja video processing chip do and whats the point of putting it in there when dell has to disable it.

2407 Delivery when?

So the 2nd June is not correct on the site??
I've found a company that have plenty UK stock revision A01 @ £716 total. If OcUK is going to be another 15 days might try em out! if not I'll wait for OcUK

Yup, I believe the A01 has had the firmware upgrade to reduce banding and other similar problems. But because the 2407/2007 weren't released in the UK until very recently, I don't know if any of the earlier revision ever reached the UK, although I may be wrong.

Oh well, my only other major problem now is how will the response time compare to my VX922.. Will I be able to live with it.. And the only way to find out is to buy one..

Questions, questions, questions...

The A01 revision fixes banding in one of the modes, but theres still banding in the other 2 modes... but does that matter?

what do the other 2 modes actually do?

Most importantly, is it safe to buy this panel now? By this i mean... will later firmare updates be able to fix any banding issues in the other modes, or is it intrinsic to poor hardware and thus not possible?

Decisions decisions..

A01 is the latest revision and the only revsion sold in the UK so far according to Dell. Dell told me approx 15 days - basically the 3+ weeks listed on the site but at £821 FT*!.. No one at OcUK can confirm they will defo get the 2407's tomorrow, and the trouble is i've got a 256mb 7800GTX running on an old CTX 17" screen! I'm ordering it elsewhere for delivery tomorrow, can't wait any longer, £775 OUCH! Looks like I'm staying in this month then!

looks so far that the UK will get the A01 revision straight away which is good news. They have disabled the Faroudja video processing the main mode of the monitor, but it is left on in the other presets. This doesn;t really matter at all, since i would doubt many people even bother using the presets on their monitors. More info coming about the Faroudja processing and DCDi very soon (i'll post it in here in a bit) to explain what it does. It is designed to offer some good improvements so they've left it on in the other modes so users can choose from themselves.

there's no need for future firmware upgrades to fix the issue in the other preset modes since it would probably just involve turning the Faroudja processing off altogether. They've left it on for the other modes but only so you can choose. The other modes are just preset selections with differing colour, brightness and contrast settings. They are common on a lot of screens, so you can switch to "movie" mode, or "gaming" mode if you can be bothered. I doubt many people even bother....

Thanks badass

ok i see. So u can stay in the mode which has the faroudja processing turned off, and change colour, brightness and contrast settings etc without banding occuring?

So the panel is completely fine, unless u like at the touch of a button to change between different presets which each have their own color brightness and contrast settings?

Not a problem for me, i wont ever change such settings once im happy with them.

exactly. Same with me, i could never be bothered to change presets. Just set it up as you like and you're fine :) Panel is very good with the A01 revision.

So if I'm reading this right, A01 means the faroudja chip is disabled in one of the presets, which you recommend on using constantly. Would this not result in a bad picture, because the advantages of the faroudja chip (like DCDi for making a smoother image with fewer jaggies) would be lost?

Is Dell going to try to fix the chip at any point in the future, or are they content just turning it off and forgetting about it? How much of an advantage could be gained from a functional Faroudja chip?

Questions questions....
