Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

I'm still playing with it...that's just a pic of the box lol

I'm it's a nice monitor but is it worth nearly 600 quid ?

Hmm...not sure on that one...

How is the response compared to the U34? And did you get much tearing on the superwide? These two monitors are so close in price I'm finding it hard to pick a winner. If I didn't love Street Fighter I'd be all over the U34, but obviously that awesome ratio counts against it there and I worry the response wouldn't really cut it as I'd be moving from a 1ms / 144Hz panel.

Really want to buy a monitor but I just can't decide!

totally agree with this.. everyone goes on about viewing angles but why do they matter when you're stood right in front of it haha

Because on a monitor of this size your eyes subtend different angles depending on which part of the screen you're looking at. And that affects the representation of the image, most notably with reduced gamma perceived further down the screen and increased gamma further up the screen. Hence you get lower saturation towards the bottom.

I'd think you would enjoy UW more TBH...I'm running around @ 100 fps I'm I'm not noticing much over a solid 60fps UW ...but I have washed out colour and a smaller screen...:p

Going from my VG248QE I can't imagine I'll be disappointed with the colour from either of them! And the size thing is interesting; if I pick up the UW it'll take up my entire desk, but I think I could get the S27 and pop the Asus next to it in portrait mode if I needed some more screen space.

I think I may just order the S27 and see how it goes. I watched the video review a few pages back and that honestly looked amazing to my eyes. I guess really what I'm hoping for is to keep the response and smoothness I get now but at 1440p and with slightly better colours.

That said, what sort of changes (if any) did you notice with G-Sync off?

Edit: I've just checked out the YouTube channel of the chap who posted the video review (Daryl Reseigh) and since posting that piece he's actually returned the monitor due to the vertical line issue - he says: "Sorry guys but since posting this, i have come across some serious issues with this monitor and i have had to return it. In gaming and under general use, i can see vertical lines on moving objects when contrast is set to 62% or below. Because of this, no matter what settings you play around with, it doesn't look very good in terms of colours or brightness."

Yeah I can confirm the same....at first I thought it was graininess....but it's not...

Vertical lines appear then dissappear in game depending on the scenario....

I'm sending it back...

Not impressed TBH with this monitor....do TFT Central actually play games in reviews?

I've tried numerous games aswell...and I'm getting the same thing...

Plugged in my 24 iimaya display as I thought I was going mad and no lines at all...

This monitor does not oooze quality build....Its light plasticky and wobbles on its stand when you press the OSD buttons...

Not impressed at all...

When it goes into standby mode...You have to power it off then back on again....With the Dell U34 I just had to wiggle my mouse or press a key on the keyboard....

Its like a cheap TN with an overpriced module in it....

Take the module away and no one would play top dollar for this monitor....

We have some Dell's in work and they are built like Tanks...still going strong after being hit for 8 hours a day...for years and years...

I mean you would have thought they would be able to keep the cost down...without the red lights and bling of the ROG...What we get is a sticker lol...Thats fine but put the money into the build quality...

I honestly hate this monitor now....

Garbage....overpriced tat...The U34 Dell was far better built...

In fact I've decided to write a letter to Dell about it.

Easyrider, I've still got the screen with me so will do some further tests for this vertical line issue. Can't say I saw it at all before but keen to retest. Can you confirm if it's at certain settings? Refresh rate, Gsync on/off, ULMB on/off, response time setting?

£600 for an 27" TN.......

Might have been acceptable a year or two a go but today hell no.

£600 is a lot!

I've now taken this Dell out of my options..

And so far opted for this.

still trying to decide which one.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,263.18
(includes shipping: £13.20)

However I've seen the Acer at £630

Out of them two i would personally go for the ASUS, it's also cheaper which is a bonus!

Give me an hour and I'll report back mate.

The Acer for around 600 is a good deal for an IPS model, but at that price I'd be tempting my the IPS Swift tbh, especially with OcUK's dead pixel policy...

Yeah I know, however my only concern is I am currently only running 2x EVGA 680s and worried about powering 165hz... I will how ever be looking to upgrade to new GFX when the new Cards get released.
