Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

Power is at the port as the light on the USB glows for a few seconds, then doesn't come back on. It should flash, checked in another USB port.

Fixed. Just uninstalled the error in device manager and it began working....Don't ask why because I tried the USB stick before installing the monitor drivers from the Dell site.

Thanks though Guys!

After working out what you're on about, I would agree with the value of ~1.5-1.7.

Is that what you observe 'by eye' if you keep your eyes fairly central with the screen (or 2/3rds of the way up) and observe the test from a distance? Also lower your head ever so slightly or raise it ever so slightly. What reading do you get now? This test is extremely unreliable on Twisted Nematic monitors due to their viewing angle restrictions.

Yeah. But, a TN will always have ****e gamma across the screen, even if the central is at 2.2 the rest will be either >2.4 (top) or <2.0 (bottom)

And no one sits with their monitor with eyes at the center. Top of monitor will be so dark that darker games are close to unplayable.

Why is it that TN tech cannot be somewhat uniform in terms of gamma? Can it not be improved at all?

My XL2411Z cant even hit 2.2 @ center even with nvidias Gamma slider at the bottom. Unless I sit below the monitor, but then half the monitor us unusable as everything is so dark above center.

Yes, the gamma behaviour certainly is strange on TN models. On many I actually prefer aiming for a central gamma of around 2.3-2.4 simply to counteract the washed out look further down the screen. But then the top of the screen does look rather dark with even higher gamma. I've never been able to get reliable readings for central gamma on the Lagom test that even remotely correspond to what a colorimeter would say, though.

Raising and lowering my head changes the value.

By IPS standards I'm sure this monitor is not the best but from what I previously had this is better :)

Basically, I wouldn't worry about what the test or any similar test is saying. If you enjoy the monitor and how it presents the image then that is much more important. :)

For me it's great, I know I won't be able to edit videos or photos on it and get good colour reproduction but that's why I have a Mac.

For gaming and content consumption it's ideal for me. Faults can always be found if you look hard enough, the trick is not too look.

I'll let everyone else sort the IPS bugs out before I jump ship in a couple of years.

Anthony.

I'm hoping in a couple of years we'll have lovely OLED's to put these kind of issues to bed :)
