DELL S2719DGF Owners Thread

HDMI or DP should result in the same picture, though DP can overclock up to 155Hz
Thanks just ordered should be here Saturday. I will just use the included HDMI cable then 144hz is more than enough.
Coming from a 7 year old 1080p 120hz panel so the jump to 1440p + freesync will be nice.
I will post back when I receive it :D Will be interesting to compare the IQ and see if TN panels have advanced as much as many people are saying.

Do any of you owners of this monitor use it for desktop work and also static games like Football Manager and also have experience with IPS screens?

I've had IPS screens for many years and worried about going with a TN, but I'm keen to get a high refresh rate screen to aid with motion sickness and fatigue. The fastest games I play really are the TrackMania series & Redout, but I also play CIV style games, Battletech, Elite Dangerous, XCOM etc.....

Any insight would be gratefully received :)

I have a Dell Ultrawide u3417w IPS and a S2716DG TN the IPS is relegated to my second rig and the Dell TN panel is on my main rig doing everything, Dell probably make the best monitors going right now i'd buy the S2719DGF without hesitation.

Setting the response time to fast should be the right one.

Are you still confused about the rest or have you played with the settings?

Probably best to read through the review and start from there.

https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/dell-s2719dgf/

I don't think it's good advice to copy the settings on his review. His unit has bad gamma that can't be corrected without ICC profiles or adjusting gamma in the control panel.
Toms hardware seem to have a unit that tracks 2.2 out of the box, their settings are probably better though they suggested that they don't improve all that much on "Standard"

My post doesn't say anything about copying settings. I advised to read through the review to get an understanding of the settings.

In regards to your unit I'm not sure that you can get an accurate gamma measurement from the site, you may need a colorimeter for that.

If it's washed out take your time to tweak settings and check everything including RGB settings in the Nvidia control panel.

So mine has arrived. Out of the box, at least according to the lagom.nl, gamma appears to be around 1.9. Everything looks washed out!
Build A00, Sept 2018.

My advice, don't panic (yet) it looks terrible out of the box.

The first couple of days (at least for me) you really notice what I.P.S does better and have a tendency to miss what the t.n. does well. Sort of perceptual shock (the mind sees as much as the eye)

R.T.S game preset can help at first.

Don't test, game and play something you know well. At first it will not feel good and you will notice every small fault and difference.

I set mine up in multi monitor at first with my I.P.S, made me want to cry. Difference is not as it seems when you start to use it. In particular web browsing and forums/ text seemed to me horrifying at first. No way I could use the t.n. (gave my I.P.S to a relative a few days ago)

Expect a bumpy ride and a serious case of buyers remorse sometime between 11. a.m tonight and 2. p.m tomorrow. Its perfectly natural.

May not be for you but don't worry, test it out see what happens. You may be surprised.

I really like RTS mode and to me it doesn't matter what the modes are called, only the image.

Many Asus monitors come with racing mode out of the box and is considered the standard go to mode for many.

RTS mode + dynamic contrast makes the monitor look comparable (not the same but close) to a Dell I.P.S in gaming mode. Makes it seem more familiar at first, I think I have dynamic contrast off now but more use to the screen.

Using RPG for assassins creed origin, worth experimenting, but RTS works well with most things including a.c.o., I also really like it.

First setting I used that made me start to feel comfortable with the screen.

Never notice the names, tweak with anything see what it does, can really make a difference.

p.s LadFromWales, with my monitor, its really sensitive to software adjustment on a game per game basis. Few games that require some trial and error experiments in both in- game settings/o.s.d./nv control
Been wondering why Rome Total War looked like an utter crap festival all of a sudden, forgot I had switched to RPG mode, which improves image quality elsewhere but turns this game into an eyesore with odd artifacts.

RTS is a good start setting as it improves most things.

Less set and forget than I.P.S. an o.s.d change can make a significant difference if something looks bad. Sorts out more than you would expect.

In a few games it can be rather unforgiving if you don't get the correct mix.

Hi all just purchased this monitor liking it. Thanks for all the help on this forum

Quick question how do I start to setup the monitor, whats the best settings etc
Make sure to download the driver and display manager from the website. It makes changing some settings a bit easier.

My preference for brightness is around 100 cd/m2 which is approx just under 20 in the monitor settings as I game in a darkish room. I found the RTS mode the best as it produces nicer colour and you can add more using the saturation at the very bottom of the game tab. I have made sure that I have selected RGB, full dynamic range and 8 bpc colour in the Nvidia control panel instead of auto.

I have not touched digital vibrance or any other settings in the control panel except for video colour settings at the bottom for video and internet videos. That is set to full dynamic range in the advanced tab.

I am using a display port cable and have enable the 155 Hz overclock.

I am one of those who prefers the colours that AMD cards produce more so than Nvidia. With an AMD card make sure to enable 6500k in the colour settings as sometimes it bugs out.

That's all I have done and I am very happy with it. My unit may have really good gamma though.

I did try the ICC profile from pcmonitors review just to see what it looked like but it was too dark but very rich on my unit. In other words, my unit didn't need it. If your unit is washed out after tweaking then you may need a profile to help correct it.

Just take your time with it over the coming days as whatever you change, your brain may get accustomed to it. :)

@Davanius it sounds like your unit tracks 2.2 gamma closer than others, including mine, as his ICC profile was designed to correct panels targetting 1.9

I am using the Standard preset. RTS preset appears to add halo's around fonts which I found distracting. I have ran the windows display calibrator and have adjusted the gamma as such that the dots in the middle aren't visible. I have made no other picture changes.
I am happy with how it looks, though i did discover while I had my AOC IPS hooked up too, that it was targetting 2.3-2.4, making things look richer (and darker) than it should.

To be honest, I am not sure if the monitor not tracking 2.2 out of the box is a fault, and if having to correct it with ICC profiles is acceptable, especially when other users are getting panels that are more accurate out of the box, and don't need any software correction.
But from looking at reviews, reddit etc it seems that there are more panels tracking 1.9 than there are 2.2.

How do i know what my monitor is tracking ?
