Did they give an estimated delivery date? I'm running out of time to order mine before returning to UK.

I still can't find a sales telephone number that works outside UK - they all seem to be 0870 numbers!

Don't suppose anyone's got an email address of anyone there?

Depends what you'll be using the laptop for.

That's just it - what kind of applications might be affected by having only half the L2 cache? Hopefully I won't miss it, but I do run some pretty large spreadsheets, and motion analysis software.

Anyone played Unreal 3 Demo on this yet.... if so whats the best NVidia Driver to go for? The original Dell ones or the ones from this other site that keeps getting mentioned... Lastly what is the version number of the best driver for this.

Just grab the latest version from laptopvideo2go.

currently at 163.75.

I've been reading a few forums and UT3 is extremely playable at 1280x800 with most of the settings on high. I say high, but the demo only has medium res textures (number 3 on the slider) to save on the download size. The slider can go up to 5 but the texture detail is still medium.

well my problems just getting worse, they are sending a technician round tomorrow to replace the memory and gfx card.

I'm having a few issues with the laptop not wanting to come out of standby.

Sometimes it iwll not come out of standby at all, and other times it will come out of standby (i'll hear windows making sounds) but the screen won't come on.

Both are fixed by holding the power button until it turns off, and then booting it up again, which isn't very helpful if I haven't saved stuff!

Has anyone else got this problem?

just been browsing, theres a few discounts on at the mo for this laptop, all 3 specs iv drawn up (vostro1500(2), vostro1500(3), vostro1700(2)) have came out at just short of £500 +vat+shipping, all the exact same price.
Odd because the 1500s are exactly the same except one has the Truelife monitor and a far inferior CPU, and the 1700 has the bigger, higher res screen&faster CPU
Think itll be 1700 for me in the end, im going to ring up and try and haggle them down because it is a little expensive, and i never realised the delivery was as much as someone mentioned(£60?)
What would I go around saying to try and encourage them to help me out, I am a student so I could play the usual IM A POOR STUDENT one, and my siblings are in the armed forces, do they do student or MOD discount?

My last post disappeared so im not sure whether it was deleted or not, hopefully this edit is acceptable if the other wasnt.

Is it worth paying the extra £10 for Truelife monitor thing on spec customisation?

Sorry if im asking too many questions but id like to join your little vostro club:)

Got my laptop now only took 5 days!. where can i get the latest video drivers? (i have just used the ones from the dell web site atm).

Did a fresh install of vista its all good so far, first time i have used it and tbh i like it. :)

Your post was probably deleted as you're talking about buying from a competitor (OC sell Vostro's too). Take out any references to price and buying elsewhere. Just mention the spec and that they are of similar price and your questions to keep your post from disappearing again.

I had a visit today from one of dell's technicians and he replaced the memory and the gfx card, everything seems to be working ok now, lets hope it stays that way :)

i never knew OC sold vostros!

Whats the difference between the truebright(or was it life?) and normal monitors, or the ultrasharp or wahtever its called ;x

thanks, turns out before when i was speccing a 1700 that i only had a 1440x900 screen in there :(GRR i hope i can get discount :)

hmff well it turns out i cant buy a vostro from a certain retailer because they are supposed to be for busineses.. but the inspiron of same spec is £800 or something mad he offered it for £630.. not really very feasable option for me..!
What do you lot recommend? theres a certain site selling for about £620 but the offer is on its last day today, i really want a c2d, 2gb ram with a 8600GT, bigger/high res screen the better, but i really didnt wanna pay more than £550 for a laptop, though this spec kinda makes me want to pay £620-£630 :(

Ok well after a little bit of banter Iv managed to spend £623 (special negotiated price) after pulling a fast one on the girl i talked to, shes basically matched a made-up spec for 20p more than I origionally quoted her for, just because i didnt want to have to enter all my card details online again. For this 20p Iv now got Vista home instead of business(Not really many differences but home has the media centre functionality right?) a cushty better screen, a little upgraded c2d ;)

Ill let you lot know what i think of it when it comes :D

Nice to hear you got a bargain... always worth the phone call.

wasnt really such a bargain, i would have much prefered the origional specs at about £550 :( Its a shame Oc aint selling the vostros at such a competitive rate, the phonecall was pretty difficult, just trying to understand the people on the other end
