Dell Vostro 1500

wasnt really such a bargain, i would have much prefered the origional specs at about £550 :( Its a shame Oc aint selling the vostros at such a competitive rate, the phonecall was pretty difficult, just trying to understand the people on the other end

Whats the actual spec? I got a 1700 with the truelife screen (1900x1600 or something), T7300, 2Gb, 160Gb 7200rpm HDD, 9 cell battery, bluetooth and Vista Home Premium for £800 all in.

Just spec'd a 1500 and a 1700 and the 1700 came out a fair bit more expensive with lower chip model, none True life screen etc!

Think I'll go with the 1500 :)

Seem to be getting good feedback on here :D

its about the same except for the screen. The 1700s were good prices but i just wasnt willing to pay that much, £620 really pushed it for me!

hi there

my dad has had one of these for a few months now and it seems a tad slow (spec is 2ghz, 2gb, 160gb hdd etc)

i did the usual maintenance bits on it, there was no spybot etc on there and ill defrag after this but it feels laggy. it is on xp, not vista.

it basically has the dell OEM software on. is there anything i should specifically get rid of or tweak?

also, cpuz says its running at 1.1 or 1.6 ghz most of the time, then sometimes goes up to 2ghz.

anyone know what the issues may be?

its got all the speedstep/powersaving etc features turned on, meaning it cripples its own performance when it can to save on battery power and to stop it burning your knees

I have been looking at the Vostro tonight but obviously being under the Business Section of Dell, on the order for it asks for a Company Name and doesn't proceed without one....What you all putting in there?....Anything?....Is it actually checked? :D

Ok parents just phoned me to say Dell had left a message on answer machine saying I could expect delivery between 12-5 on Thurs(Im still using the card I got when I was 18 with their address as billing :D), Think that makes it about 7working days since I ordered it.
Annoying how they didnt ring my mobile after repeatedly telling the woman to put a note on the order saying ring MOBILE not landline..

Just a suggestion but... Wouldnt it be a good idea to edit a post on first page with URL for latest drivers for 1500? after all theres now 23 pages to sieve through for URLs =/

What everyone’s experience of using Windows XP on this laptop? And what about Linux – has anyone tried Ubuntu yet?

I was considering going dual boot on mine :D

SW.

A colleague at work had the 1700 and theres one ram slot under the keyboard and one under the back of the case. One of his sticks of RAM became faulty after less than a week
