Dell Vostro 1500

A colleague at work had the 1700 and theres one ram slot under the keyboard and one under the back of the case. One of his sticks of RAM became faulty after less than a week

Same with the 1500 as my ram was replaced too. One stick is accessible under the keyboard and the other stick from the bottom of the laptop.

i am finding this laptop very slow, ive not downlaoded much and havea very high grade vostro. im not sure what i can do do spped it up. it always says the programme doew not respond and freezes for a long time. not what i was expecting when buying it be wary . anyone know how i could take it back / speed it up???

I'm interested in finding out how other people's laptops perform in games. I bought the Orange Box last week and my Vostro runs HL2 and Portal on full video setting, with AA and AF on full at 25-50 fps. If anyone else had HL2 Lost Coast, could they post their average fps in the stress test? Mine is 48.2.

Thanks :)

There is very little difference between the 2 models as they're practically the same.

The Inspiron is the consumer model for home users and the Vostro is aimed at business users.

The Vostro was great value initially when it came out as it was a new model with great savings over the Inspiron. It now seems that the roles have reversed and the Inspiron offers a better deal. Not surprised to be honest. There was such a huge demand for the Vostro's that they probably got a load of Inspirons stock piled in a warehouse and need shifting.:p

I'd just get whatever model offers the best deal to be honest, unless you specifically want an all black laptop in the Vostro.:)

Guys, I've just set up dual-boot on my laptop; Vista and XP Pro.

Question: Do you need to install both soundcard drivers from the Dell website? I've only downloaded the Sigma driver which extracts okay, but when I restart the driver tells me that I don't have the supported device? There is another driver on the site for XP, but it doesn't look relevant :)

Any ideas?

Cheers,

SW.

I'm having a few issues with the laptop not wanting to come out of standby.

Sometimes it iwll not come out of standby at all, and other times it will come out of standby (i'll hear windows making sounds) but the screen won't come on.

Both are fixed by holding the power button until it turns off, and then booting it up again, which isn't very helpful if I haven't saved stuff!

Has anyone else got this problem?
This is one of the very problems i have encountered, i can't remember whether it just happens with Vista64 or 32 but i just disable standby and use hibernation instead.

Oh and by the way, don't know if anyone noticed but an official 64bit driver for the fx card was released last week some time - check windows update.

I managed to fix it. I'm using XP, and found that it was a graphics driver issue.

I'm currently using 163.14 drivers with the modded .inf file with no problems.

I just got my 1500 (2.0GHz, 2Gb, 8600GT, TrueLife), and I have a question: can I use any MCE-compatible remote with Windows Media Centre (I went for Vista Home Premium)? And do I need one with a USB dongle receiver?

Never had Media Centre before, but the wife wants me to hook it up to the hi-fi.

hm, i spotted something about bluetooth in the bios, do they all have bluetooth or what? i dont remember asking for it but i didnt ask for the webcam either but iv got that(and its bloody good quality may i add!)
Im concidering ditching the media remote idea and using my leftover wii-remote if i do infact have bluetooth

actually remote those cuddles since my ethernet now wont work, its saying drivers not installed for some silly reason...!

its workin now, though i dont actually know if i have bluetooth though, i know theres a few problems when you downgrade to XP with it but yea.. its no big deal but it would be good to have it to use with my money instead of using the usb cable all the time, and iv got a spare wiimote i would like to use as a media centre remote on it.. :)

Anyone else tried out the Crysis demo on their Vostro? I'm just about getting playable frames per second on medium settings without any mods or add-ons. I'll get more accurate test results tomorrow.
