Dell Vostro 1500

I've not heard of a charge for changing Business to premium before. They certainly didn't charge me. Maybe that's where your "discount" came from.

Nice spec though.

yea i never got charged, business is more expensive than premium?
Its a decent price really though. You may have been to haggle it down a bit more but it depends on who you talk to and how good you are at the BS. And time, time is money though.

get the 9cell battery for the teen, just incase he starts to use it portably.

Otherwise spot on, except 1900x1200 is a bit overkill for a home laptop isnt it? You could get away with 1440x900 for it really. Not sure what you are using now but most people are happy enough with 1280x1024 for most desktops, or widescreen of 1280x800(or something?) or 1440x900. For general browsing, word processing, watching movies its more than enough.

Hardly overkill, I think it's one of the best possible upgrades to make on a 17" laptop, more screen estate should always be a welcomed thing. :)

on a 17" screen that may just be used for browsing & IM??? Not worth it in my eyes :x
Though i asked the op what he thought, maybes hes used to it :o

Hi
When the wifes in , use the 17" for playing games downstairs ,and when we are out watching DVD's also want to get the best laptop for my money , could not believe Dell would not knock any off and still want me to pay £120 delivery , If they carry on might have to look at the HP or Toshiba's from out Famous local electrical superstores

dell will knock money off, it just depends how you go about it.
17" with 1900x1200, with a 8600GT.. owned tbh :p What games? That card will be crippled most likely by a lot of games at that res!
DVDs will not look any better on a 1900x1200 screen than a 1280 or 1440, as they are in reality about half those resolutions anyway :)

You can do better with that 1500 by ringing up again. I got £640 inc VAT & Del and that was in Sep.

Differences to the one you've specced, it had:
T7300 cpu

Bluetooth Module

On site 3 year next Business Warranty.

Well happy with it. Ring them again and barter :)

Just actually realized, this is a 1500 thread and I have been talking/ordered a 1700 owell hope that it wasn't too intrusive :D was very helpful looking at this to see what they were like.

Is anyone else's power cable always coming out? Mine doesn't seem to be very secure :( Keep returning to my laptop find that it is flat - soon the battery will be dead

Hmm Dell just changed my delivery date from 19th to the 28th, not happy bunny. Been in 'Pre- Production' since Sunday 9th now saying been in Pre-Production since 14th, so what they been doing the last 5days?! Grrr *rant over*
