Dell Vostro 1500

Yeah, it will come up as 'Generic PnP Monitor'.

You need to go into the device manager, select 'Monitors' and double click the 'Generic PnP Monitor'. Then click the 'details' tab and select 'Hardware ID's from the dropdown menu. This'll give you the model number of your screen.

Cheers, ive got a AUO2077 is that the bad ones?

I've got an AUO one, and it's perfect! I love it :) The AUO ones seem to be a bit hit and miss really, I just got lucky.

Most people seem to decide whether they like their screen the first time they see it. Personally, I just went "wow!".

i seem to be having all sorts of problems with mine, not sure if its because i installed 4gb of 6400 ram (worked perfectly in lenovo) and also my 7200rpm hitatchi 200gb (also worked perfectly in lenovo) but i re installed vista, all appeared fine so proceeded to windows updates (about 150mb of them) rebooted, and no go kept bsod but i didnt get long enough to see what it was anyway ive reinstalled again ill try with updates again although someone did tell me bother with 4gb and vista in general although i never had any with my desktop?

Silly question, but are you sure you installed all of the system drivers? All of the Intel drivers and mem management software etc?

vostro1500 with 8600gt runs cod4 :) portal too, not with bells and whistles but both are perfectly playable
The gaming performance has been better than expected tbh.

Older games (such as WoW and CoD2) I've been able to run at 1680x1050 and look superb. I have an XB360 and PS3 so haven't tried more recent games as of yet.
Thanks :) Sounds enough for what I want.

erm i cant find any drivers on dells website or the disk for memory management??? ive not installed the intel matrix storage drivers as yet

Yeah, it's the matrix storage drivers. There's one on the Intel website which also includes some sort of memory management.

Install that.

Yeah I've had exactly the same problem with mine after upgrading to 4GB OCZ PC5300.

The error message in the log says something about the sleep function going wrong.

I assumed it was a vista issue that would be sorted by the next service pack. Is that not the case then?
