Dell Vostro 1500

Tried a few games on mine last night.

Ran COD2 flawlessly (1366x768, High, 4xAA), as well as HL2 and Nexus:The Jupiter Incident.

Pretty good for what is essentially a budget laptop really.

Anyone using the Vostro 1500 with Vista Ultimate 64?
When i first got this laptop, 64bit drivers were available on the Dell website, but they are no longer available.
Why sell a 64bit laptop without 64bit driver support....sounds a bit 'Acer' to me :(

Last night i was copying something off a dvd and noticed that annoying sound in the headphones, but it was a lot worse than the cpu noise i used to get.
Does anyone know of a fix for this noise?

Cheers

Check near bottom of page 9 of this thread, believe there's some info there.

The RMClock thing? I used to use that, not sure why i stopped using it  But ive just tried to reinstall it but it will not let me do so - maybe i only installed it on my vista 32 partition and its never worked with vista 64 :(

One other question, I have what looks like an infrared sensor on the front of the laptop below the media buttons (play/stop etc). Is it infrared? I dont remember getting the option to have infrared on the laptop. What is it?

I think thats for when you use the Dell travel remote (only on certain models for media direct and Vista media centre use),look on page 61 of the Vostro pdf manual.

I have a Vista64 install media which I used for my desktop.

Would I be able to use that for my laptop, and enter the serial on the base of my Vostro?

Check that the Dell website has the appropriate x64 drivers first, otherwise you might find yourself stuck with reduced performance/functionality.

There were but they removed them. They never offered 64-bit drivers for the nVidia card which was a bit of a sticking point. I guess the non-techno-geeks out there were getting confused with 32-bit and 64-bit drivers and therefore Dell just removed them in order to alleviate tech support calls.

hm, im using xp and sumthing has been bugging me lately, im typing in msn windows and for sum reason i look up and now im typing in a word document behind it, so only half the message is up in msn?

anyone else doing this, maybes im pressing something??? Its my first laptop so maybes th.. OOOH and its just done the annoying thing and moved up 3 lines to just behind the '?' for some reason while i was typing, its annoying because i dont want to type some of my msn convos into a word doc by accident and hand it in to uni!

Are you possibly brushing the touchpad with your thumb while you're typing?

Installed Vista64 on mine a couple of days ago. Works perfectly. Now that the drivers are pretty much sorted, Vista64 is an excellent OS.

i rly dont know, i didnt think I was, i might start turning it off and using a mouse to see if i am just skimming it lightly or something, i dont half hate touchpads :)

I received my Vostro 1700 yesterday,to my good surpise they installed 2Ghz rather then the 1.6Ghz Conroe 2 CPU I ordered.

I also have a LG/Philips screen(true life@1440x900),no dead pixels however its very bright and colours seem a bit washed out, very hard to get a pure black on black backgrounds(has a hint of grey) .

I did use Spyder2Express monitor colour calibration which did help reduce the washed out colours etc...overall I happy with it,did some gaming and installed a modded 171.12 driver for my 8600m gt,I also upgraded the BIOS to A6 version from A4.

It's very quiet as well,HD is a toshiba on mine,5400rpm.
