Sounds like this could fix my problems.

How exactly do I go about hiding the update, and will that fix the BSOD related to the 4GB RAM upgrade?

it fixed my problem, there was a little tick box to hide updates i think

Can someone remind me how the battery charge status thingy works on this laptop?

Atm, my laptop is off and charging. The battery led on the right-hand side of the unit is periodically flashing blue :confused:

What does this mean?

Fading in/out blue - Asleep
One flash every 10 seconds or so - Shut down/Hibernating & Charging
Solid Pink - Battery low
Off - Shut Down/Hibernating
Solid on - System running and charging/on mains power.

after having 2 1500's now i have to say i was unimpressed by the 1440x900 screen(TL), the 1280 x800 (NTL) is far better quality, not sure if i had a bad one

I got a 1440 on my M1530 but only a 1280 on the Vostro 1500.

The M1530 is the better quality screen of the two. I also find 1440 Res the best for 15.4 laptop. But I suppose it's really personal preferance.

I love my 1440 TL display. Absolutely gorgeous

Mine came today with the 1440x900 screen

Viewing angles are far from brilliant, but when viewed head on, it looks gorgeous. Definitely the best res for a 15.4" screen imo.

Quick question.

If i wipe this laptop totally, can i restore it fully with the discs provided?

By wipe it, i mean re-partition the HDD including removing the restore and media direct partition.

Just boot from the brown OS disc.

Can I ask Vostro owners (particularly 1500 and 1700) if they find the laptop nice looking in the flesh and how they would describe the 'look' it has. They're great value and I can't find anything with an 8600GT for anything like the price of the Vostros, but the pictures make them look a bit bulky and drab maybe.

Also any comments about the weight of the 1500 (I know the 1700 weighs over 3 kg), does it feel heavy? Finally how about the build quality and feel of the materials?

Personally I like mine, theres not much to say about it as its just a black laptop but im happy, as far as build quality goes i think its pretty good has a very solid feel about it probably due to the weight, there not light by anymeans
