It's more like PC early access at this point. It's fully released in China but they have to translate any changes for global markets so the rest of the world has had a delayed launch. Console support from next year. Mobile is out as well or at least some sort of pre-release/beta.

Officially stated there are no planned wipes, but in the future players will be able to voluntarily 'reset' and get perks for doing so. It was briefly stated in a Q&A with the notion that the player could become some sort of map 'boss' for the voluntary reset.

At least we haven't got to pay for it unlike POE2 which won't actually be released as free-to-play for another 12months+....................
To be fair you get the free coins when you buy POE2 EA, so it's not really costing you anything since you would need to get your wallet out anyway to buy stash tabs, but yes I agree with your sentiment

Is this worth playing as someone who dabbles in Ready or Not/Tom Clancy style games? but isn't particularly good at them. :D

Maybe? There's 2 main modes, Warfare which is your 32vs32 battlefield style and then Operations which is the extraction element.
There is the PvE operation mode where you can squad up or go solo in a small storied mission with episodes to complete. So far only one map is out for that...I wouldn't count on it being a major gameplay element though. Nice to have a blast against bots but nothing to really progress your gameplay (no loot extraction or alloy credits).

Within Operations you can either play as a squad or queue for solo mode where there's no squads, just you against other solo players. The time to kill is pretty quick though so it won't be as forgiving Ready or Not/Tom Clancy. Shoot first and on target to win.

The game is free so might as well give it a go.

If you love micro-transaction based games and operator "Class" based FPS happy days. Having tried this in beta or whatever it was I swiftly uninstalled. Coming from a huge series fan too.

There are micro-transactions for cosmetic stuff and that's it. From what I've seen thus far there is no element of pay-to-win. I'm guessing the best safe box is in a battlepass which you might really stretch to say is close to an element of pay-to-win by just letting you save more on failed extractions, but you can't buy anything to make you better than someone else.

Some people like the operators and some don't...can't please everyone. It is perhaps a little excessive in the warfare modes and maybe separating out the skills based on game type and then tweaking the cooldowns would help.

I started with the battlefield mode but after a few weeks moved to extraction (my first ever experience of extraction shooters) and then never touched the battlefield mode again.
A single player campaign will launch in the future which will be a paid element but I have no interest in that.
