Delta Force: Hawk Ops

holy Hell, where did this come from? huge fan of the games back in the day [recently put a couple back on the puter but for some reason Land Warrior will not play at all]. we were all eagerly awaiting Angel Falls that had some cracking teaser trailers and then it all just....died :(
My first online gaming was Joint Ops, great stuff but my weedy PC at the time used to cry whenever i put it on.

not sure about the voice talent in that trailer, lol.
Oh wow I remember trying to plan land warrior on 56k.

The oicw and the black hawk game

Started with DF2 online and then played god knows how many hours on DF:BHD - still meet up and in group chats with old clan mates almost 20 years later.

Was in a clan called Troopers of death - we use to have tunnel nights on a friday where the server was always full and fun.
Use to play matches against other clans.. god those were the days.

I'm sceptical on how good this is going to be but it certainly does pull on the heart strings and i hope for the best.

Used to play DF2 with a bunch of mates in our local LAN back in the day, when we fancied a change of pace from CS and HLDM, lots of fond memories :)

Fast internet is great, and does multiplayer much more convenient, but it has pretty much killed that culture of actually getting together to play :(

BHD was awesome too, I'm sure I saw the disk for my "backup" copy the other day ;)

has anyone fired up the games lately? i got DFX2 and one of the older games to play but for some reason Land Warrior, one of the newest, just flat-out refuses to work. tried Win10's emulation mode and stuff, no dice.
got Comanche gold too, might have to stick that back on, see if it still works.

I've got DF 1, 2 & BHD which all work with no problems (getting full screen is the hardest thing) but I've not got DF:LW to be able to help. However, I have Comanche 4 on Steam and that plays OK even if the controls are completely screwed for a joystick.

Was a huge fan of BHD. BHD was more gateway to online gaming. absolutely loved it! It had such a thriving community, loved organising squad matches!

Joint ops was hilarious upon release with the depth of all the weapons and vehicles!

JO was my first multo-player onliner too. had a 1hz puter w/ 2kb graphics card or something similarly pathetic but it was cracking. had a couple of meh missions as anoob cos i'd spawn and all the others would run off w/out waiting for me and i'd be fumbling about, but then i had a missing when you got in a Black Hawk and had to fly to a fortress island and as above, it blew my mind. there was stuff going on all over, Little Birds scrapping inthe air, speedboats chasing each other and major league **** going down on the island itself. was like being in a movie.

loved the mission editor aspect too, made a couple of missions for BHD:TS, one w/ another guy called Baldo The Don who did a voice pack for it. was on Barrcks/Reload but it seems they've both died over the years :-(

Zero faith in this being good, considering the team behind it. Looks to be another generic FTP near-future shooter with zany cosmetics to milk the brainlets (with a nostalgia-bait 3 hour campaign tacked on to appease us older guys).

New game on the way from the delta force franchise. Looks like a love child between battlefield and call of duty. Free to play which is interesting as it means you can give it a go without needing to spend money. Jack frags has a showcase of playing the game here:

As a battlefield fan, it looks fun. There's an alpha test ongoing now until July 18th

The way I look at it, yes it runs the risk of being a bit bland and ticking all the boxes for current hot things to have in FPS games like the unlockable (and crucially ability to take custom skins which can be sold) with operators

But it's free to play. Does it matter if they monetise the *** out of the cosmetics as long as it's just cosmetics ? As as it doesn't go fully pay to win and locking guns and abilities behind a pay wall, I think it could be fun. Definitely worth a try being free to play.
