Recieved this today, played a couple of hours and first impressions are very good :)

Not as hard as thought it would be but that could obviously change.

Happy to answer any questions if anyone is still undecided on whether to import.

First question :P. From what ive seen its a lot like Oblivion. Oblivion for me was horrible on consoles but good on the PC. How does it play is there any slow down or massive loading times and are trophies included.

Loading times are reasonable and unless you die a lot you only experience them at the start of each level.
I have noticed some slowdown but not an issue and far from game breaking.
Trophies are included (in english)

As for comparing it to Oblivion, well I can't really say yet because it's too early, what I will say is it's far more linear than Oblivion, although the structure of the game world is excellent and the controls are spot on.

Combat is very rewarding and the AI is also very good.

After playing this a lot of the weekend and not progressing at all, I thought I'd give a bit more info about this game and make some comparisions to Oblivion.

The levels (world):

In DS it is split up into five area's with four parts to each area, which there is a boss to defeat at the end of each part. Nothing like Oblivions open world although there apears to be areas you can only access later in the game after you have obtained a key or some other item.

Combat:

The combat is far deaper than Oblivions, and really makes the game what it is (hard). You have light & hard attacks as well as blocks, side step, rolls etc. In addition you can weild you sword one or two handed which helps with the stronger enemies/demons. Every opponent needs a careful approach as they are smart as well as dangerous.

Trading:

Each level has one or two traders/blacksmiths hidden away but apart from that all other items can only be purchased and repaired in the Nexus (main hub where you can access the areas).

The Nexus is also where you go to level up. Currency is souls for everything and you can't sell items only store/drop them.

That's it for the moment but I can say that this game is tough but addicitve at the same time. And the boss's

I'm trying to keep this thread alive as imo this is a very special game, and at present there is nothing like it available this gen on any system.

I'll be back later to update with the online part of the game :)

Hmmm, this looks like it's right up my alley and makes me feel a little happier about my recent PS3 purchase. Though I don't often fork out so much for a game I will likely import this after pay day.

im very tempted, is the bosses that i wouldnt be keen on though

The bosses make this game. One thing I get from this game is a major sense of achievement every time I bring one of those mothers down. Only beaten 3 so far (game is solid) and despite boss fights usually taking upwards of 30 minutes (I like to take my time :p) i've never lost on the first try.

Also, question tho those that have the game. Are we able to play any form of online co-op at all?

Sort of..

The game is online at all times unless you discount/turn off your modem etc.

Online works in varies different ways.

Firstly you get messages on the ground from other players usually warning you of up coming events, i.e. I may well come across a message to tell me there's treasure up ahead or enemies etc. You can also leave messages and rate other peoples messages which will give them a health boost. In addition to messages you can also click on blood stains which will show you how the player died. (not much use tbh)

PVP - You can invade other players world and kill them or be killed. Haven't done this but I believe if you achive it you gain their souls? or/and get your body back? (maybe someone can confirm this)

CO-OP - I've done this with a friend, and it works well (ish) but really isn't the type of co-op like other games. How it works is that you lay a stone down to tell other players that you are available to help them. They see a sign and click on it which will take me to their world to help them, but unfortunately there's no voice coms or messaging while in co-op and I have to be in soul form to lay the stone as my reward for helping someone is that I get my body back. The co-op really is to assist with beating the boss's and isn't really about you and your mates playing together.

Have you beaten the Armoured spider? He/she is brutal, must have tried 4-5 times to defeat it. Then I moved on to the Tower Knight and virtually took him down only to get swiped at the last minute :(

I agree tho the boss's are a sight to behold and even though I've only managed to beat one they really make you want to return for more punishment :D

Took the spider down a few days ago using a shield & scimitar combo. If you hug the left wall most of his attacks wont hurt you, then you run in whilst blocking and try to get it to slam itself onto the floor. Hit him and then when he gets up run back to the end of the tunnel. Thats how I did it anyway.

The PvP sounds a bit annoying. Surely you must somehow open yourself up to invasion, rather than just be exposed at all times. Imagine how bad it would be if new players were constantly invaded and killed.

From what I understand you can only invade players with a higher level than you, in addition if you defeat a black phantom ? (the player invading) then you will get all of their souls. Although it sounds annoying from what I've heard most players rave about it...

Yeah I knew about the left hand wall, and tried what you said but when I ran up to the spider it just kept swiping me and never seemed to stop for me to attack :(

Try running backward and forward underneath him. Alternatively, if you have enough arrows theres a spot around 2/3rds up the left hand side at which you cant be hit by anything, just keep sniping/casting from there and he'll go down eventually. I ran out of arrows though and therefore had to try sword+shield.

Well tried a couple more times and had to give up as it was doing my head in, but cheers for the info as it helped I at least got it's health down to the quarter mark :)

Move onto the Tower Knight and beat it first time with this character :) As you said beating a boss really does give you that buzz :D

Going to go back to the armoured spider as I managed to grab 12,000 souls and upgrade my tools & stats. Also grabbed the water veil which will hopefully help with it's fire.

Don't suppose you have managed to get past the two dragons on 1-1 yet, not sure the water veil would help with them?

No, I had a go at the dragons and got pretty much insta killed. I've been informed that there's a really good shield on the floor somewhere around there, but i've never been able to get to it cause the red one destroys me.

I did however manage to defeat the leechmonger tonight. Valley of Defilement boss. Easier than I thought he would be, mainly cause his attacks are duration based rather than instant damage. You can also use some cheap tactics on the rafters involving magic to whittle his health down. The problem with that level isn't the boss, its getting to him. Absolute nightmare :p.

Have you taken down the red dragon yet? As i've heard he can be done quite easily on 1-2.
