Then we'll just continue to assume the worst ;)

TBH when I saw you'd bought CA speakers I was a bit like 'hmmm', and they didn't look anywhere near as attractive :p New ones look awesome and I know already that they sound fantastic!

Hehe, I think the guy at Richer Sounds felt the same as well because when I walked in carrying the CA boxes he was "Jesus! I knew you'd be back but not this soon!" and then we listened to the other speakers they had and I walked away with the Tannoys.

I don't know what made me get the CA either, I've had meh experience with the CA stereo amps in the past as well but I guess this time round I was willing to give them a chance.

Still, 14day trial periods with no questions asked refund/exchange cannot be argued with =)

If that wallpaper is off InterfaceLift then you'll be able to get a 16:10 version, since they have every image in a load of different sizes/aspect ratios.

Nice speakers but I'd never use hifi ones so nearfield, the way the drivers are set out means they sound best at a distance, plus I'd want them a foot away from the wall at least, unless you could bung the ports.

Sadly the room is long but the width doesn't cater for that very well. When work is done to the house in the near future perhaps I will fix this though as that will be dedicated to the PC setup only, for now though it still sounds very good and I do have an armchair behind me where I sit and read or listen. That's about 6ft back

Was there a price difference between the Tannoys and the CA?

Yup, £140 extra.

I agree with this view, but assumed he could be watching movies/listening to music from further back (from a small couch perhaps). The desk obstructing the speaker would bother me too, but I've been in the small room situation before when I didn't want to compromise and knew that I'd be moving to my own place soon enough where I'd have the space.

So close to a wall and in what looks like a small room I'd have have definitely have gone for standmounters and set them at a height to clear the desk. I find the majority of people buying their first proper system are mostly bassheads though... when they get onto upgrading to med-high end system it's more about purity and by then they may have more room for floorstanders.

*no offense to anyone in this thread, just stating general observations :)

I want B&W MM1s for the PC my next upgrade...

These certainly are not basshead speakers of course and I'm not a fan of bookshelf speakers as I prefer the balanced mid and low range of this kind of floorstander. My mordaunt short speakers were superb but I wanted more detailed lows and better separation of mids which these do perfectly.

But as mentioned earlier, the room is long but not too wide. However, the sound isn't compromised really as I sit back when listening or watching anyway on the armchair. They sound as detailed and lively as they did in the demo room at the store.

No need to worry about the table blocking to sound too :)

Fair do's. It's a nice set up anyhow and floorstanders nearly always look a bit smart, especially with the drivers exposed (as they should be!).

It's all cool

Drivers exposed is good but not when you have nieces and nephews round who like to prod and poke! My first ever Tannoy speakers led a hard life of being poked and prodded but thankfully their domes were fabric-like so they immediately went back into shape!

Have you done anything to that CM-690's front panel?
It looks like the mesh is removed or something.

Sweet setup, how are the bookshelf speakers?

Thanks, the bookshelf speakers are good considering they are part of a budget system, little Wharfdale 9.0`s and an A1 CA amp, quite punchy bass and good overall clarity for the price (£125.00 for the amp and speakers).;)

Not done anything to the front of the 690, all the mesh is there and present.

teejay - that looks great mate - love the black'n'white setup! looks so clean :)

Cheers mate, decided to go for the clinical look but is a damn struggle to keep it clean when you have 3 little urchins running about all the time!!:)
