Destiny 2

Datto's impressions:

EDIT: Pretty much aligns with my thoughts.

Also MTashed has done a quick impressions video:

Considering his experience with PVP it is interesting to hear his thoughts.

EDIT: Pyscho - We now have effectively two primary weapons split between kinetic and energy (burn). In effect you can have two hand cannons or a hand cannon and AR etc. All of the current special and heavy weapons (+ new ones) are now "power" weapons.

Mtashed is a ****. i'd listen to any other streamer or youtuber over him even Nkuch.

that seems ridiculously stupid for crucible if so. they have gotten rid of sniping then. as snipers are now in the heavy slot. heavy will spawn once a match? as before?

4 v 4 means smaller maps. so i imagine it will be a meta of grenades with some supers, hand cannons, auto rifles and pulse rifles depending on what damage they associate to them and their archetypes.

it's a shame we got to see zero crucible footage. they may have killed the game for many. why don't they like snipers? they want it to be competitive and get rid of the high skilled weapons. you have to choose now between a heavy or special weapon? seems crazy. they have always wanted a primary meta for some reason and now they have it.

I think overall they have shifted to a more Halo-esque style for PvP. Power weapons e.g. Rockets / Sniper are now on timers. I'm kind of happy with the move, something had to change, lets see how it plays out. However, they can add map callouts and a new HUD to show the team statuses all they want, unless they have a proper ranking system and normalised weapons for ranked PvP I think competitive will flop again. Imagine a CS:GO tournament where 1 team has AK's with better aim assist and range because they farmed more PvE / got lucky with RNG......IMO Crucible should be a clear split: Social unranked playlists with no SBMM or ranked playlists with SBMM or whatever and normalised weapon perks.

Just watched some gameplay. Feels very much of more of the same. Will be interested in the story element only, though, so perhaps it will be OK.

I do lament the loss of innovation in modern AAA titles and it always feels like games are being made for shareholders not gamers.

Not sure if I will buy D2 yet. I will probably wait till its been out for a bit and see how the land lies.

3 melees for a kill. No grenade can 1 shot.

I think that 3 melees is overkill. They have effectively nerfed them into the ground. All they had to do was get rid of shields and make all their ranges equal and nerf them slightly.

4v4 looks like a sweatfest. It will never be a fun game mode. It will be like playing in a competitive match every game. I don't see the point in 2 primaries. All 5000 watts did was run with 2 hand cannons so she doesn't need to ever reload.

They have nerfed movement also. Titans and warlocks can no longer skate around. It's not the same game crucible wise far from it. I just don't like the idea of 4 v4 I liked getting phantom medals etc. I don't think crucible is going to be anywhere as good in terms of fun. It's going to be like playing trials 24/7.

Also to combat god roll rng I imagine that the vendors will stock decent rolls time to time. Possibly even sell the god rolls.

I hope people complain and they bring back 6's however I imagine this will suit streamers and YouTuber's to a T. So they may opt to listen to them over average people.

I'm not actually sure how I feel about the reveal. On one hand I like the change from selecting activities from orbit to triggering activities while on patrol, however some of it sounds like a repackage of what we already have..... Adventures = repackaged quests???

Is that actually the case? The gameplay video I saw clearly shows a fireteam sat in orbit with the same old ship screen as they fly in to start the strike.

That may be because this was a set build for the event. I don't think they let them go on patrol so they wouldn't have been able to select things from there. Bungie did say in the reveal that you no longer have to go to orbit and everything is doable from patrol/planetside. How far it extends is anyone's guess.

We still have the beta to come, let's see what happens with the ranking system

They have slowed the game down slightly. Things like titan skating completely skewed aspects of the game, having a certain class being able to achieve insane speeds was something they obviously didn't plan for and it made balancing things like weapon range very problematic.

Wait and see how it plays out, who knows maybe they will up the player count in other playlists? I'm not sure what you want? Crucible to stay exactly the same? Some of the recent metas have been terrible, they had to change something.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about your Phantom medals. You only have 4 over your entire crucible play time....

My impressions:

Destiny 2 should include new stuff that requires huge amount of rework e.g. 60fps or dedicated server.

For me Destiny 2 should have included the following stuff:
PVP:
Private matches
Custom game modes, example: force everything to use rockets, change moment speed, change super cool down speed to 1 second etc
allow Strike modifiers

PVE
Strikes
allow you to select Modifiers,
you pick enemy type or example: hive only on mars strike

PVE Maps
without dedicated server, going to be very sad :(
24 players in open world fighting against public events could be great fun

i find really funny, PS4 pro running this at 4k native resolution? Only 4k games on PS4 Pro currently are PS3 games :)

30fps would push me to the PC version, although I'll likely get both due to the staggered release. I actually quite like the idea of 4 v 4 for everything PvP. More teamplay, less spam, and should be easier re. map design. My biggest hope is Bungie improve the single player/coop game. Destiny 2 needs a bunch more variety here and more challenge. And the raids - less tired mechanics borrowed from pc mmo and more focus in what makes FPS fun.

Either way, getting hyped now!

Yep it was clear that the build for the event was completely custom with preset characters and load outs. IIRC Fruits PVP video shows the director with only two options at the top (basically strike and PVP).

I don't particularly care if it is checkboard to 4K or native 4K, it still looks great (having watched the strike a few times through the areas shown look gorgeous and a lot "crisper" than similar areas in D1).

Hi guys is it worth picking up the first Destiny to get me up to speed with mechanics/lore? Or can i just read the online Codex thingies instead, i just want to be up to speed by September.

I think the Destiny collection can be had at a good price now, I would say it's worth picking up. There are still quite a few players active and others who are picking it up for the first time ahead of D2. Are you on PS4 by any chance?

Grimoire wise, there is a fantastic website here that summarises the whole of Destiny so far: http://www.seraphimarchive.com/

Yep im on PS4, although i haven't turned the thing on since Uncharted 4! Was involved in the Beta for destiny but at that moment in time the first 90 minutes really didn't grab me.

Surprised there is no 1080p/60fps option on console

Will probably be the only PS4 Pro/Xbox Scorpio game I pick up and play for a year as was the case with Destiny and PS4

Will buy on launch this time as opposed to waiting, I'm sure there will be a loot cave or two that gets discovered early on

Fair enough dude, if you do end up going for it, send me a FR on PSN and I can help you out. We can also do the "refer a friend" which gives us both rewards :)

I read recently that Destiny 2 is being limited to 30 fps due a CPU bottleneck in the PS4 Pro, I'll see if I can find the source. I'm probably going to double dip now, just hoping for some kind cross save for when I transfer to PC

Yeah I read the same thing, Luke Smith said the GPU is powerful enough but its the CPU that's holding it back, specially with all the enemy A.I and other FX etc etc.

Edit: http://www.dualshockers.com/bungie-destiny-2-30-fps-consoles-ps4-pro-60-fps/

I'm looking into getting a decent PC built and probably double dip to.
