Destiny 2

I don't like the change to the weapons. Having the shotgun and sniper as a heavy makes no sense to me.
The game looks REALLY nice. Graphics have improved a lot.
The strike in the beta is pretty good. Took a few attempts to do it.
My only issue so far is that I've been disconnected from the servers 4 times. Once just as we finished the strike so I never got my gear :(

There's a LOT of frame drops on the original PS4 console, it doesn't bother me that much as I'm going for the PC version when it comes out, but it's pretty noticeable.

Not surprised at all that it isn't running 60fps, when it struggles to keep 30. It's an extremely particle-heavy game, loads of special effects going on.

4 on 4 not enough players and scoring in Crucible botched, what's wrong with individual scores as you go along?

I must admit I didn't notice any frame drops on my original PS4 compared to the Pro (played back to back).

Really enjoyed the mission and strike. At the moment it feels like they have taken everything that was good about D1 and amped it up (which is what I was expecting tbh).

The strike in particular was a stand out for me. Plenty of verticality and space to try different approaches for each section. The triple stage final boss felt good and had the right level of challenge (difficulty wise it felt like earlier strikes in D1 when initially levelling).

If the rest of the missions, strikes and patrol regions are up to the same level/quality then there should be a decent amount to do and (ultimately) replay.

First impressions are that the Crucible felt, well, like the Crucible (at least in the control mode) but with a longer TTK. The map chosen was find for 4v4 but I will withhold judgement (on 4v4 vs 6v6) until testing the other maps.

Balance felt fine with the limited weapons on offer but the Hunter/Warlock auto (the one that looks like a AK74u) did feel better than the others. Sub classes all felt decent enough (I do love the hunter dodge + auto reload*) but I haven't played the Warlock/Titan enough (in PvP) to really get a feel for the specifics.

Overall first impressions are positive. :)

*Although this does seem somewhat weak compared to both the Warlock and Titan perks.

So, what's the verdict? Destiny 1 with some graphical updates? Shame they don't seem to have made any improvements on the open world side of things...

Think I'll probably just skip the beta and see how the reception is on launch. On a new project now and I am not gonna have the same free time for the next few years as I had when Destiny launched!

I hope the grind-reduction balancing changes they made in D1 are carried over.

How would you even know this, the open world patrol isn't in the beta and has been kept under wraps deliberately

I may be wrong, but from what I've seen on screenshots, D2 is still just a disconnected set of instances with the Director screen for selecting which instance you want to teleport into?

I was hoping for a more coherent shared world, where you can meet people in social spaces, group up and travel across the open world directly to shared activities without have to sit and look at loading screens.

The open world is meant to be bigger this time round. That was one my main issue with Destiny (that and the combat vs ai being a bit pap) - the free roam areas were tiny and more like old skool Monster Hunter in scope. In fact, even though they were tinier, levels in Halo felt more sprawling and open and you got the sense of covering distance and discovering things. Much of what Destiny does is great and I've lost countless hours to it, it's just odd that it doesn't do what Halo did well.

I've only played a bit, will have a thorough play tonight. But 4v4 felt quite good actually. And the game feels much nicer (only Hunter so far) in relation to movement and jumping

Your assessment

I agree with everything, I do think the heavy weapons should be a wee bit more powerful in PvP but that's it. But maybe that's down to heavy ammo is more frequent.

Did enjoy our exploration of the strike though :D lot of fun.

Beta is underwhelming. One mission one strike and some pvp.

Can't judge the game on this but I can barely tell the difference.

Weapons feel like they got a little bit more weight.

Played it for a bit but quickly got bored of the beta. Looks a bit more refined and seems to play fairly well. Just not enough in the beta to keep me on for more than a couple of hours so will probably be waiting until full release now.

Played the mission as hunter then a bit of PvP. 4v4 actually felt OK. Didn't try the strike but I liked what I played. Feels all very familiar, looks a bit nicer, sounds amazing a always, gunplay and movement all spot on.

Played this last night, First i did the strike I was a warlock as hat is what i used in D1 and was match made with another Warlock and a Hunter, Didn't find it particularly hard tbh, Died a couple time but beat the strike first attempt, Also tried the PvP and found it boring, I think coming from playing so much BF and having a faster FPs this was a struggle locked at 30, also the movement felt heavy and slow, and when you hit sprint it really didn't feel like you moved any quicker.

For me, and i know the Beta is a small example, but there isn't anything new to make me want to invest in it.

Finally after a good few mths I fired up my Xbox to play the beta.

First impressions is that it wasn't too bad, enjoyed the mission and strike. Didn't have too much problems finishing off the mission and the strike. Like the new hunter super though, thought it was pretty cool.

The exotic hand cannon was brutal, took a few enemies out by one shotting them in the face.

The new cabal enemies ie gladiators were a bit tough though.

Looking forward to the full release in a couple of months.

I started with Titan, :)

PVE:
Cool down way to long on everything,
Heavy weapons need way more ammo in PVE mode, you only get 4 shotgun ammo when it takes two to kill one AI)

PVP:
Cool down way to long, not getting a super for some games.
enjoyed power weapon system (same as Halo) - needs ammo tweaking
find it really funny they removed connection bars in game :(
4V4 works well (same as Halo)

Overall,
PVP they done great job, but still needs tweaking, its just halo with poor net code, 30fps and lacking weapon balance :D
PVE taken a massive hit, with current PVP systems in place :(

Less supers sounds all good to me in pvp. In fact 4 vs. 4 appeals more too. I sunk a great deal of time into Destiny pvp and loved it, but 6 vs. 6 was too spammy. Nothing worse than having a good dual with someone and you get supered from out of nowhere! A little tighter, a little more teamplay - the pvp alone will bring me to Destiny 2.

i agree, but i never got a super within 8 games, 4v4 works but its just copying halo, without supers it's no longer destiny.

They should give everyone 1 super per game, use it any time.
