Any recommendations how to tackle Atheon efffectively on hard? Just always seem to get stuck there and tbh I don't know why as most bugs can be anticipated - just seems a single mistake topples the whole attempt at times...

Atheon is one of the easier parts of the raid. Despite the glitches and the fact that if one person makes a mistake its usually a wipe, you get a run where everyone does their thing & no mistakes/glitches take place and you have him in 3 teleportations.

Did him twice the other night the first team was more effective, despite being overall lower levelled. It took a while for the second team to get into the groove.

I find a job that is often overlooked is clearing supplicants. I like to take this on and can usually get them all cleared & start dealing damage to Atheon too. Gives the guys in the bubble a clear escape route.

I struggle more with the areas where you're being swamped by mobs. With Atheon, it's consistent (ignoring glitches), and as long as everyone performs the task assigned to them, it should go relatively smoothly. It's the modern day equivalent of jumping on Bowser's head 3 times!

Edit: What I would say though is getting everyone in the bubble isn't necessarily the best approach. If you're in a good spot to get a decent amount of damage on Atheon, go for it. Waiting for the relic holder, then getting everyone into position, people moving about etc... You lose a lot of precious time that way. I usually stand by one of the portals and fire off Gjallarhorn while Atheon is distracted by others shooting him.

I've done hard a few times now and that is exactly it.. you need a streak of runs where no-one dies and no mistakes are made.

Don't think it needs all players to be alive - one down is still do-able - its when it's two or more down it becomes impossible.

I was on clearing harpies duty last night - man that Golden Gun makes the world of difference once I started using it during time of vengeance.

But yes, clear harpies helps a lot! - it's not good when members come through the portal to run start into them and die.

I think last night we were all just getting tired poly - It can be hit and miss though with Atheon - bugs galor and frustration setting in doesn't help. If after about 4 attempts its not complete you'll also find everyone running low on heavy ammo - I had none due to a lack of glimmer :(

People need to stop being afraid of the relic duty too - one character ALWAYS spawns on top of it - grab it and run down quickly to the middle of venus/mars and if done quick enough can wipe most enemies in one hit - its when we start erm erming the delay allows the enemy to start manoeuvring towards you.

We needed Hutchy to set us an 'ultimate deadline' - I blame him ;)

It's mostly 'mericans with stupid stipulations. We got all the way to Atheon with 3x30s, 2x29s & a 28 the other night.

I can see why some wouldn't want a team full of 29s for it, you need a good mix.

There's a reason some may be afraid of relic duty, maybe they are lv29 and everyone else who is ported is lv30, in which case they should avoid picking the relic up. Going Rambo, dieing and causing the entire team to wipe helps no one. Relic priority should go something like warlock>titans>hunters, as hunters survivability is lower and they're more use to the raid using golden gun. The problem is its hard to organise when you have less than 2 seconds to make a decision on getting teleported.

In my opinion rushing down to the centre with the relic is also unnecessary, if you get unlucky on mars, then you will end up dead before anyone else in your team has had a chance to throw a grenade. I would say its more ideal for the non relic holders to get the initial aggro as they wont be in the thick of it and they can use cover.

I've seen many people say that Atheon is one of the easiest parts of the raid but I would take the conflux stages of Templar over it any day. There are no bugs to contend with and you only have to look after yourself. I cant even remember the last time I died on the conflux stage on hard mode(unless the other sides got overwhelmed and I was one of the few remaining).

I agree with that.. I spent a full 2 nights trying to get into a Hard raid group with my level 29 Hunter. Lots of experience, all 300 guns and know what I'm doing but still can't get a Raid spot easily. The few times I have got one I've seen plenty of Lvl 30 people running round like headless chickens and getting killed by Atheon before teleporting them which is just stupid.

I appreciate that a whole team of 29s will find it hard going, but groups refusing to even take 1 or 2 is annoying (Or even worse a Lvl 29 who's arranging the party and refusing to take anything other than 30s just to make sure he get's through OK).

grrrr

Speaking of which does anyone fancy dragging my 29 around on Xbox one this weekend :D

I'm free anytime now so if anyone fancies it let me know.

I am a 29 and I wouldn't really advise having more than 2 tbh and it's preferred that they are warlocks so that they can revive themselves.

All it takes is a hobgoblin to hit you and your scrambling for safety.

One Level makes a huge difference in the hard raid. The normal raid for me is easy as a 29 but hard is very challenging on certain parts

I'm out tonight playing a gig but was looking at arranging an XB0 hard raid on Tuesday night.
