Detailed my car at lunchtime. What do you think.

Well that would entirely depend on the asking price, wouldn't it.

You refuse to understand why people give a stuff about their cars, and constantly deride them for doing so, which gives me the right to refuse to understand why you were happy to drive around in a car with such apalling poor paintwork for such a period of time.

I'm the first to say people who do 60 page detailing reports with photos of every 30 seconds of work are sad. But nobody on this forum is like that. Nobody here does this. We just enjoy spending a day or two every few months giving our cars paintwork a proper going over. It just seems every time we do this, we are met with vocal complaints from people driving beaten up sheds.

It was priced to sell quickly, not given away.

You appear to have me confused me with somebody, I didn't 'deride' anybody, of course I understand how people 'give a stuff' about thier cars. Just because somebody doesn't anally 'detail', doesn't mean they couldn't care less about thier cars.

I simply stated that I don't get it, and I find it a little anal. I also said that I appreciate we all have differnt hobbies etc.

which gives me the right to refuse to understand why you were happy to drive around in a car with such apalling poor paintwork for such a period of time.

The car's paintwork was fine, 3-pieces of plastic needed painting.

Which would be who?

You seem to be under the impression people who don't 'detail' don't care about having a dirty car. On the contrary, my car is rarely dirty, it gets washed at least once a week, and polished once a month. I just draw the line at spending 8-hours doing it, that's all.

You and the others are in every detailing thread, having a go at anyone who even considers a product intended for the 'detailing' market. Not saying you shouldnt, its up to you what you post, but by doing so you open yourselves up for criticism.

I dont understand how someone can care about their car, wash it once a week and even so go far as to polish it monthly (I dont polish mine monthly) and then not care that its covered in swirls.

3 rather large peices of plastic.

The amazing thing is that if you HAD properly detailed the car, it would look like a well loved classic rather than a heap of crap :)

Classic. Absolutely classic Fox.

I'm impressed it is road legal! Old motors are so much fun!

What are your plans for the car?

Please tell me you going to go for a traditional hotrod look! In acid yellow with flames maybe?

I hope he doesn't. It rocks the way it is - used, cruised and abused classic with period mods.

Nice skills there mr 69 :D

Which bit of toolbox equipment did you use to measure the paint thickness around the car ? :p

Au contrair, you refuse to understand that for many people the state of the drivetrain and suspension etc. rate orders of magnitude above how many "swirls", "holograms" or other minor "paint defects" their car has.

My cars paint is pretty poor by some peoples standards, lots of stone chips on the bonnet, peeling laquer on the rear bumper etc. but after a wash and a polish it still looks great, even standing next to the car unless you apply the special anal retentive spot light and magnifying glass. What do you actualy gain from spending excessive time and money on polishing a car? It is temporarily more shiny than usual. In another year all the swirls and marks that were carefully polished out will be back, probably along with a few dozen more stone chips.

Clean and polished cars are great. "Detailing" is an "epic fail".
