Detailed my car at lunchtime. What do you think.

Do you guys not understand that its just some peoples hobbies? You constantly rip the **** as if you think it makes you superior.

Now, I don't sit outside all day with an orbital polisher checking paint thickness readings on my car becuase I'm far too inept and would probably break something but that doesn't mean it's hilariously funny to constantly deride those that do.

Everyone has different hobbies. For some of you guys, it's posting on the internet about how you dont care about cars, for them, its spending all day with a rotary polisher. For people who dont care you sure do post about it a lot :)

detailing is an easy target. It smacks of sad loners constantly polishing their car to remove marks only they can see.

I don't get it myself, but when I pick up the trevor I'll probably have some kind of professional valet done on it which may include some "detailing". I won't be having it done every week though.

There are an unlimited amount of hobbies people could choose from, some like building model aircraft, some like fishing, some like building computers, it takes a 'special' kind of person to admit that 'polishing' is their hobby.

I wash my car when I can be bothered, in fact I technically don't wash it. All I do is fit the brush attachment to the hose and use cold water and the brush to clean it. Works good enough for and cleans the car and only takes 5 minutes :D

It kind of is though. Because spending 2 days polishing a car(s) is just sad. It's comparable to spending 2 days buffing my balls with a lint free cloth.

Surely a car is 90% ability (mechanical or otherwise) and 10% visual.

You seem to be under the impression people who don't 'detail' don't care about having a dirty car. On the contrary, my car is rarely dirty, it gets washed at least once a week, and polished once a month. I just draw the line at spending 8-hours doing it, that's all.

Polished AND wax'd I hope... Polishing it every month won't do it anygood.

The thing is, by hand it can be done in 4-5 hours (taking it easy) and you would only have to do it once or twice a year.

Not really a big deal to make your car look that little bit nicer?

:)

As Jonny uses his car daily, surely it has ability in bucketloads?

*n

He's already stated in this very thread that it is probably the slowest car on the forum. I'd say 'sod all' is a far more accurate description than 'bucketloads', considering being driven is probably the most routine thing a car should be expected to do.

The point still stands that in no way is the Pop '90% ability and 10% visual'.

What about a car like the one in the OP which has sod all ability. Surely then its pretty much all visual?

It enables Jonny to get from A-B, also, a machine like that (obviously) isn't about performance, it's about a certain feeling you get from driving an old car :), appearances play a part in that, but when you're inside driving it, they play a small part.

Quality!

Detailing is something that people with shabby sheds who think dulux is an acceptable touch up paint will never understand ;)

I hand painted my old XR3i with hammerrite a while back - does that put me in the dulux brigade then? ;):D
