Detailed my car at lunchtime. What do you think.

For me it's like people who say brought instead of bought

"I just brought a new car!"

or borrow when lend is the correct term

"Hey, volospian, can you borrow me a tenner?"

or people who say off of

"I picked the spanner up off of the radiator"

Grrrrrr:mad:

Anyway, enough, I'm off to detail the carpet with my new Dyson!

:p:D

detailing is the art of spending all weekend washing your car, in order to fill the void in your life that opened up when all your friends stopped talking to you.

Nope detailing is escaping from the one you love for a few hours, its either that or going shopping for shoes in Merry Hell

So what fantastic hobbies do you enjoy, benneh?

If I was as closed minded as yourself I might liken detailing to agonising over a multitude of different shutter effects on your camera. How sad is that!

I don't actually think photography is sad at all, but you see my point.

Oh, I understand your point, and again, no offense intended in my last post. Each to their own as it were.

I'm actually into film/video and photography (studying an MA in cinematography), along with music composition, cars and lots of other nonesense. These interests are really with a view to profession, but I agree they're no more valid than someone's interest in polishing a car. I suppose I just don't see the appeal. I've given it a fair go though. I bought a (admittedly it's a halfords £65 jobbie) buffer and a variety of polishes/wax, pads and cloths. But I got no satisfaction out of it. My car was shiny, but that was about it.

I don't see the appeal of Football, I can't understand why you'd want to sit in a cold grandstand and watch your team of overpaid hooligans lose again, and I can think of nothing more boring and dull. You won't find me in Sports Arena ripping the **** out of those for whom football is an interesting pass-time.

It is surely the same thing?

Interesting to see you've actually been out and bought a buffer, it would seem you've spent more on products than me over the last year, I've never even got that far, I just like making sure the car is always clean. Although with Uni at the moment like it is it's not been washed in nearly 2 weeks :(

The really sad thing in this thread is people taking it too seriously, the OP did a very humerous 'take' on detailing, it made me laugh and I certainly don't have any problems with someone wanting to detail their car..

You will always get individuals that attract more attention on here, as with real life you find strongly opinionated people tend to get involved in all the arguments.. amusing to watch of course, and easy to bait..

The OP's post is a mickey take as a result of a previous thread on this forum, which is still on the front page. It conveys his thoughts on the matter :)

Im far to lazy to wash my car, its black as well so it always looks FILTHY, must admit whenever ive got the poles at the local supermarket to wash and wax it, it does look good.

I've got a few scratchs i wouldnt mind having detailed out, that doesnt mean to say id stand there on a weekend polishing it for 5 hours tho, f that :P

why not go and drive your car, thta is afterall what its for and probably cheaper than some of the daft polishes that detailers buy lol

*shrugs* Your post stated "picking on"

I think you'll find it is an accepted definition.

Ah, so we are going to dive into semantics? even if it has nothing to do with the issue? :p

Regardless of definition (believe it or not - i didn't write the post with the merriam webster dictionary to hand), what do we have for bullying?

"noisily domineering; tending to browbeat others"

Phrase it how you will, being unnecessarily ignorant and arrogant towards people easily falls under it.

The issue is that these people cannot accept that people enjoy doing something that they can't see the point in and have to resort to taking the ****/ picking on / bullying (or whatever the hell you want to call it to make your day better), for no other reason than to be a complete ****.

That is sadder that washing your car "too often" my friend.

:)

Cyberbullying - look it up - you guys are very naughty boys - i'm telling :p:D

students with 5 series BMW's what ever next ;)

I see both sides of this argument, I can fully appreciate people wnating there care to look pristine and I can see why other think spending hours polishing a car is lame. Sadly it seems people on here can't agree that different things float different peoples boats, horse for courses and all that, mind you if you spend your weekends and evenings is games workshop I'm going to have to judge you! Personally I haven't cleaned my car in two years but it is a shed of the highest degree I'm sure my next car will get looked after better.

Got to agree with the distaste for the word 'Detailing' it's just weird but if thats what they want to call it who am I to argue I'm still comming to terms with the face my care stereo is ICE!?!?

At the time my car was in quite a state, I hadn't washed it for jebus, about a year (I made a thread ages ago about removing some scratches, seems to have disappeared, that was the last time it was washed, so maybe a year and a half), I take it through a £5 car wash every 2-3 months or when it starts to turn green, whichever comes first :p (I park under a big tree regularly). The buffer did make a huge difference, but again that was really an attempt to avoid the task of manually polishing.

There is no mistaking, performance is part of a cars ability.

Are you trying to say the measure of a cars 'ability' ceases at the point it is able to propel itself forward?

Jonny's Pop is not a performance car therefore performance (or lack thereof) is no measure of it's ability.

Were Jonny in posession of a performance car then yes, performance would be one of the means by which one would judge it's ability.

Woah easy there! It was a light hearted dig and most people saw the funny side of it :)

If anyone is sad it's me for spending my whole lunchtime in Tesco's car park. For the record I own a sander/polisher and it was probably more expensive than most of the ones on here, so there you go, it's out :D

Agreed, you appear to be a reasonable person and your post demonstrates that you have more than three braincells ;) I can see both side of an argument and respect them. I don't however feel the need to be a pathetic troll about it because I happen to disagree with the other party.

I also despise the word detailing and what has come with it.

For what its worth, I porter cable my car twice a year and at the moment am washing it every two weeks. Not exactly attributed to either side of this particular argument.

Cyberbullying? What a thoroughly ridiculous concept, wonder which sandalist came up with that?

I know - its fantastic isn't it?

Please miss, this boy Derek Drew, he's cyberbullying me!
