The common sense option is two get the DFI spend the extra an not be limited with your overclock.
If I buy a 300 quid opty and clock it two FX 62 speeds and beyond the extra for the DFI is more than worth it.
But, what limits on the overclock do you get with MSI?
Mine plays 3GHZ just peachy. Currently running at 2.5 but thats purely because:-
(A) - I can take it further should I need to ( Which I dont )
(B) - This 2000HT lark - 250FSB x 4 makes it 1000 spot on. Doubled that this so called magic 2000... At 300FSB, the multi has to then be 3 which equals 900 and then 1800... Dont really know enough about clocking an A64 so I though it better to stick at the 250FSB, but both are perfectly stable.
So, are oyu telling me that if I had a DFI instead of my MSI, then I would get it higher? If so, then how much higher, and would it be worth the extra outlay?
I quite probably could go higher with the MSI, its just that I stopped at 300FSB cos I was starting to soil myself. I was certainly NOT limited by the motherboard at all.
I have just bought myself another MSI, a Neo4 this time, and its early days, but straight away, I threw the CPU in at 250FSB and it never flinched. Its now hovering at 2.75Ghz ( RAM is 4400, stock volts the mobo is only 3 days old, so I am taking my time ) and so far, its been flawless.
For me, and indeed for many many others, the small benefits of the DFI are just that... Too small to justify the large price difference.
And as for saying the DFI is a better, more secure Motherboard for the safety of the CPU, this is utter rubbish. DFI like any other maker of board have been known to have the failure that has taken other parts out. Dont be too complacent and assume that your CPU is safe just because you are clocking with a DFI... Your still clocking it...
Hey, dont get me wrong though! - please dont.
I also have DFI Boards and I am dead chuffed with them, and I am 110% happy with them, and no, no MSI will replace them.
Its just that I have not found a reason yet to chose DFI over MSI for my main CPU where-as the MSI won mainly on price.
Sort of a Price over Features against Features over Price kind of thing?
