Di Matteo sacked

I'll post my opinion later, I've been very busy last few days :(

I'll just say I enjoyed the comments from Chelsea fans. I really enjoyed the comment by one fan who pointed out Rafa used zonal marking and that zonal marking doesn't work, then in the same sentence pointed out that Pep G was their first choice :p

I'll refrain from commenting on much more until I have more time and I don't want to upset the Chelsea fans.

Seen the zonal marking + Pep thing from so many, absolutely brilliant.

Chelsea have got a fantastic manager, whether it will work with two control freaks (Rafa+Roman) is completely unpredictable although it is only 6 months I hope. Also some managers just work out, others don't at certain clubs.

Interesting point, I think you're right.

Think that was the point Tom was making but didn't quite say it, but would seem that is the case.

:D

Had a good chuckle at that.

I like Rafa :)

Isn't the season they won the league the only season they had one manager for 38 games?

Ancelotti did actually last the entire of the following season as well....only to be sacked 2 hours after their final game. What is worth mentioning is, however fortunate the circumstances were behind the title win under him they were only 90 minutes away from going level with us at the top of the table with 2 games left to play in his second/last season so he wasn't actually that far off winning back to back titles but alas he got sacked and that solitary title remains the only one since Mourinho

New man on the job already:

I'm sure they all know what system Pep uses really, especially the chairman of the supporters thingy. It's not as if chelsea fans are think as **** now is it.

They have indeed, I'm not to sure how much he can do on the 6 months until season ends mind you, knowing Rafa he probably expects he can change RA's mind about Guardiola ;) You would also expect that the (non-english) defenders they have are used to zonal with previous teams/national teams so it should come quite quickly.

Rafa's Liverpool didn't just defend zonally. Ironically, a lot of the Sky criticism of Rafa's zonal marking came packaged with not having men on each post. It was just soundbite and mantra with no thought or decent analysis. What can't be got around is that Rafa's Liverpool defended set pieces conspicuously well, something the pupils and teachers of the "I just don't like zonal marking" school of punditry and discussion would do well to take on board and remember.

But **** it, who am I talking to, I want Chelsea fans, the neutral public and the press to rip right into Benitez at every opportunity. The last thing I want is him to become is accepted.

We were one of the top 3 sides for defending set-pieces during Rafa's tenure. As you said.

You can't say either way. He has zero experience in management which is what i was trying to highlight. Do you think that is what chelsea need?

I doubt he'll make any difference either way, a good solid manager is what we need now, an inexperienced assistant is going to do much harm in the 6 months or so he's going to be there.
If Rafa needs a friendly face on his staff so be it.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing what he can do now & to be fair he's probably the best option the club had in November.

In Rafa we trust.

You'd expect that he'll make the side more organised and improve your defense. A lot has been said about getting the best out of Torres but it won't be just him. Like him or not, he's a great coach and as good as they come tactically and will improve a lot of the young players you've got.

Has it been confirmed that Zenden's going to be his assistant? Rafa typically doesn't have a single coach that he relies on more than any other. I suspect Zenden's appointment is simply down to his Chelsea connection - I can't think of anybody else Benitez has worked with that has any connection with Chelsea.

He's also taken Paco de Miguel (fitness coach) and Xavi Valero (keeper coach) with him - both of which were at Liverpool too.

Thats the spirit.:p
Anyways a manager that can break the real-barca monopoly in la liga and has 4 cl finals to his name can't really be bad. HE has also got experience in dealing with troublesome owners.

He'll have to be a magician to get anything out of Torres, he really is that bad and the other points are just what we need.
Zenden has been confirmed in as much as he's joining the backroom staff, it might just be an appointment to appease the fans a bit.

I mean the first bit, the 2nd not so much;)

Knew he'd been appointed, I was asking about his actual job title. Sammy Lee was given the assistant title at Liverpool but the reality was that Pellegrino, Valero, de Miguel etc probably had more say.
