Di Matteo sacked

Not surprised really, crashing out of the Champions League (which now looks very likely) was never going to be good enough for Abramovich, winning it last year just set the bar of expectation even higher.

It'd be good to see Rafa back in the Premier League even if it's only temporary and maybe he will get Torres back to his old self.

Life’s a bitch and you could see this looming. Yes he's a legend but there's been nothing legendary since winning the champions league. I'm sorry for him but the defence problem and formation have not been resolved.

The season has been one step forward and two and a half back. We have clueless attacking and a very leaky defence. Not much of a change from last season.

The man holding the reins takes the blame and it's not as though he's not had the time to move forward. There is no point in continuing as he’s shown no ability to manage tactics or a pool of very talented players. Better now than in another month or so when it will have only got worse.

Can’t wait to see who we get now.

You are right up there in the league in terms of goals scored and have one of the least for goals conceded. The defence was always going to be hit when you take your best defender out of the team for two months and your LB who was previously touted as the best in the world has a dip in form.

Are you just trolling when you say :

"The man holding the reins takes the blame and it's not as though he's not had the time to move forward. "

He's had 3 months since the start of the season, no you havent really performed in Europe, since winning the thing by the way, but you are THIRD in the table, giving him time would have been giving him the season.

This is an utterly stupid decision unless they have pep lined up! Which i dont think we have him lined up......Madness!!!

Pep would need time, Chelsea arent going to give him that. Not only that but Chelsea dont have a 40 league goal a season striker.

Peps a good manager no doubt but Xavi, Busquets, Villa, Sanchez, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique, Messi etc are also very very good players, players that have played together for years in some cases, something Chelsea dont have.

Lol Chelsea ruining football...

The QPR board need a long hard look at them selves how a team like Chelsea is under-performing in their key competition but still in with a chance to succeed and can still sack someone like Di Matteo when their team currently will be relegated with a new points low sticking by Hughes.

Shocked and amused in equal amounts. Wouldn't be surprised if they get 'Arry in for a few months, sell everyone over christmas, get landed with Ryan Nelson to partner Terry at CB and don't qualify for Europe next season.

DM why do you have to change a thread from being about Di Matteo being sacked to a whole page on why you don't like Mancini. It's almost as if I came in here slating Di Matteo for his tactics and lauding Mancini as a tactical genius who is the best manager of all time. Oh wait, I didn't. Simply said it's out of order for the media to be calling for his sacking just because Chelsea are in poor form, then I linked it back to the same media slating Mancini because we haven't won every game this season 10-0. Everyone knows he has a poor record in Europe and that has continued this season, regardless of how much money you have spent if the team you put out doesn't perform what can he do. Oh Yeh, try and change it then get slated for doing that when it goes wrong.

Anyway back OT its very harsh to sack Di Matteo imo, just because your in some bad form it doesn't mean be couldn't turn it around like he did when AVB left. I really cannot see Guardiola going there, immense pressure to win every trophy and game which is something I thought he didn't want?
He probably wouldn't like the constant presence of Roman either, telling him who to buy and even buying players himself it seems sometimes.

Hardly surprising. Abramovich never wanted him as manager, he just gave into media pressure after Chelsea won the CL.

Truth be told RDM probably had very little to do with them winning the CL and should never have been hired on the back of it. Chelsea had a lot of experience in the dressing room and once they replaced AVB the players just took over and reverted to type- i.e a very defensive team with a lot of character.
Clubs constantly make the same mistake- bring in a part-time coach, the results pick up, give the coach the full-time position and then sack him at the first opportunity as he isn't viewed as the right man for the job.
Liverpool made the same mistake with KD. Rodgers has had worse results than KD but I think most people agree that he is a better man than KD to take the club forward.

As much as I think RDM was a bad appointment in the first place, it's madness to not let him finish the season. Chelsea should have been unstoppable for years once they got the money and Jose. Yet Roman blew it and continues to try his best to let the team be built or rebuilt.

Sooner or later there will be no managers left to try and he will do it himself ;)

Happened at 4am:

Club chairman Bruce Buck and chief executive Ron Gourlay told Di Matteo of Roman Abramovich’s decision to fire him at around 4am, after the squad had returned from Turin following Tuesday night’s 3-0 defeat to Juventus.

Wow well didnt see that coming in all honesty, i had a feeling that at some point Abramovich would ditch him but i guess their recent run of form meant he had to take action sooner.

Just a shame that Abramovich doesnt/didnt have the balls to sack Terry:p...he's quite good at sacking managers, god knows how many managers Chelsea have been through in the past 10 yrs...ive lost count now:p.

Rumours are that Rafa might take over. I hope thats not true and id hate to see Pep go to Chelsea...anyone taking on the Chelsea job must be nuts imho, its a poisoned chalice especially with a power mad owner lol. Dont get results ie win the EPL and CL then goodbye seems to be Chelsea's motto when it comes to managers.

Personally the best man for the job is Terry;):p.

Stay classy Chelsea.

In 2 minds about this as RDM is such an awesome bloke. Football side though I never thought him up to the job long term & always new in the back of my mind he would get sacked for somebody with more experience top end.
Still a shame though.

Hope RDM gets a decent job somewhere. :)

Still think Chelsea are short of players and a new manager will want assurances that they can spend, whereas Abramovich seems to think "I've bought Oscar, Hazard and Torres so we must win everything" neglecting that their star players like Drogba, Terry and Lampard have gone or are going.

Neither Cahill nor Luiz are good enough to replace Terry and they don't function as a pairing at all, and the likes of Ramires and Mikel are a huge downgrade from the days of Lampard, Makalele and Essien. Clearly they are short of strikers too.

Having said that, a new centre back and striker would make this Chelsea team one to be really feared. If they had someone in the mould of Aguero/Rooney/Tevez/van Persie to really compliment the Oscar/Mata/Hazard trio you would then have four players comfortable across any of the positions in a 4-2-3-1, much as United did in the days of Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo.

a shame that Abramovich doesnt/didnt have the balls to sack Terry
They're pretty much stuck with him though unless they can get a replacement who can make the defence strong again, and there is the small problem of the home grown players quota - Tery being one of the very few academy players Chelsea have. I guess he could be a good player manager, but I'd like to see how they manage the PR if that happened!

I think Hiddink and Mourinho are the only good candidates to do the job as they've both done it well previously, but either would be difficult to sign (near impossible to get Hiddink back with his contract at Anzhi.) Guardiola is unproven outside Barcelona, so I think he could flop - at least he was known for getting Barca's defence well organised right from the start. Rednapp and Benitez I think would both be awful for different reasons. Could Steve Clarke a good choice? not that I think he would take the job, but I think he was a big loss when he left to become a manager in his own right.
