** Diablo 4 Thread **

I'm saying, like all things in life, be it book, tv show, movie, game, car, whatever, the best and most valid comparisons are like for like, not like for similar.

You dont think that WoW was aimed at a different audience to UO? That surprises me, other than them being MMOs they are very different.

I think what you're saying is you just don't like people comparing games, but that doesn't mean you have to engage in it. I have seen this approach before who do not like their dearly beloved being critiqued, that is to try and hand wave away any form of comparison with similair titles due to some small differences. D4, POE, GD, LE have FAR more in common than they don't. Ditto WOW, ESO, FFXIV, GW2, BDO etc

If all these games are light years apart and uncomparable as you claim then why have so many people played all of then extensively? It's because they're very similair and are genre titles.

Again, what audiences were the games that came after WOW trying to appeal to?

MMO's are aimed at MMO players, ARPG's are aimed at ARPG enjoyers, just because there's nuances within the games and their player-bases does not make them an appples to oranges comparison.
I didnt say that they were apples to oranges, I said that the comparison is flawed, ie, not perfect, a comparison with inherent flaws. Which it is imo. Sort of feels like you're just bored on a sunday afternoon and looking for an internet argument :D

You think that D4 is my dearly beloved? Oh my. Well, I've had enough of this line of the discussion anyway, its not about D4 anymore, its polluting the thread with an entirely different topic which is the nature and philosophy behind the meaning of "comparison" , probably best to start a thread on that if that topic is to be further explored so that this thread can remain about D4

I think you've done the right thing and admitted defeat.

Hey, if your ego and esteem requires you to "win" an internet argument then have at it, here I will help your mental health , you beat me Darujhistan, you beat me all ends up in a debate on a gaming forum, you WON. You are the better human being than I. I bow to your superior intellect.

There we go, that should do the trick :D

Who says I dont help people out !

Got my Barb to 25 last night. Its been an enjoyable romp although pretty challenging in places, especially Den Mother. Got to really pay attention as a melee class.

Just started a Sorceress and it's easy mode in comparison, my God! Chain Lightning dropping mobs in one where I had to hack away at them with the Barb. Think this will be a much easier run through :D

Yeah Sorc is night-and-day difference to other classes due to a couple of their skills (Hydra and Chain Lightning especially).

Melee poison Rogue is pretty punchy though, but (as I found during the world boss) melee get the short-end of the stick again when they are constantly in danger and ranged players just pew-pew in safety from miles away :p

Next time, try not to get upset when people compare games, it's a perfectly natural thing to do, and has always happened in gaming and always will.

I also started a Sorceress after the Bard and it's a lot easier. Drop my hydra, sit back and relax.

Upset? Oh dear, your judgement of other peoples emotions are worse than I thought. Now my nan always told me to do what I could to help people who need help, I've done that in my own small way with that nice post laden with compliments for you, but I can only follow her advice so far, sometimes you have to help yourself too. Try your best not to go starting another internet conflict of words, dont be so needy. Dont do it for me, do it for Granny Tombstone :)

I havent tried a Sorc yet, thats in my plan for next weekend, Sorc and Druid to test next weekend and thats all the classes done for me then, apparently next weekend is a different build so will be interesting to see if they tweak the Sorc and Barb at all

Necro next weekend too :)

Didn't realise it was a different build! Hopefully see some changes

Yeah the world boss was painful as Barb. Spent 50% of the time chasing after it, 40% dodging it's attacks and 10 % doing damage :D

Yeah Necro isnt one for me though, I hate pet classes in games - just clutters the screen up with mobs all over the place (I really wish that in games it would make other players pets only visible to the owning player so I dont have a dozen friendly mobs running about on my screen), unless maybe there will be a necro spec where I can do poison or something and have no pets

Mine was more like 40% chasing it, 10% fighting, 50% running back to my corpse after dying from that giant circle AoE thing he does :p

Hopefully there'll be a non-pet Necro build, or at least maybe just a pet build that focuses on one large pet. The one's in Diablo 3 were pretty passive and didn't need much attention.

Never played a Diablo game before. Well I did try the trial of D3 a long time ago on PC, but being a console player mostly I found it a bit of a faff.

Playing the beta on PS5, but since it's cross platform and there's no PS5 thread I figured I'd post in here. Haven't really got a clue what I'm doing in terms of build or what to expect from the game overall, but I am enjoying it thus far.

Any tips for a complete novice? Currently playing as a Rogue and playing non-hardcore world tier 2. Only died to a boss in an Asylum so far, but beat it eventually.

I noticed there are 2 OcUK clans too?

Enough. I am sick to death of you rolling from thread to thread trying to get a rise out people like you have to “win”. Enough of it now, and I mean that across the board. If you have nothing more to contribute than trying to get people to admit their “mistakes” and singing off every post with a :D or a  because they happen to disagree with you or like different things, then please find another forum to do it on.

A bit underwhelmed so far, currently up to level 19 with a Rogue. Presentation wise it's great, visually it fits far more with D1&2 than D3 did, the audio is great as usual.

The open world aspect is ok, the little events are nice when you run into a few other people. It's obviously only a small part of the game, at early levels, so I'm not going to pass judgment on breadth of content until I see/play the full thing at endgame.

I'm just finding the skills to be a bit dull and the combat flow a bit janky. Looking at the tree there's nothing there that really jumps out as sounding like a cool modifier to have, just very generic % number increases. Engaging small groups of enemies seems ok, but as soon as there are few packs bunched together it turns into a game of waiting for mana to refill whilst I kite them around. It wouldn't be that bad if the basic attack skills were a bit more interesting to use, I would hope it isn't something that get's fixed with endgame gear or by hitting max level, otherwise it will just make the levelling process feel rubbish.

The lack of transparent mini map is starting to get annoying, I like to have numbers on for HP & Mana too but can't see an option for that anywhere either?

kinda changed my mind on the game now and really liking it, honestly felt like I had an allergic reaction to it on Friday night  but calmed down and put in some hours yesterday and today. It's good it's different to the other arpgs out as it's more variety to flip over to as the different games seasons come around

Have tried out all 3 classes now and tbh the barb is probably the most fun but mechanically the worst off being in melee range all the time. Once you get the correct aspects unlocked it becomes a total powerhouse through most of the content. Not quite I Win like hydra sorc or anything but totally fine. There's just a couple of dungeon bosses which are massively punishing for melee though.

The transparent map is probably my biggest want/complaint on the game so far, that and the party frames which I think are FAR too large, hopefully they will shrink those a bit or better still include some UI scaling options so that we can set the size of them ourselves

I'm enjoying the beta so I've pre-ordered the extra large version, £90 most expensive game by far that I've ever bought.

The Diablo franchise in general is one I've put a lot of time into, with D2/D3 in particular, so I'm sure I'll get my moneys worth, and I'll just have to look at it in the view that the higher than usual expense means that I'm paying for some of the additional future development.

I'd like the cosmetics you get for doing the open beta content, is there any way I can confirm I've unlocked the beta pack stuff?

Sorc is a lot of fun, I'm going to try out Barb probably next. Looking forward to doing Necro next week. I'll probably start out with Necro or Sorc in the main game official launch.
