Did anyone else get Sky for F1?

No, HD is better due to the clearer picture but for actually watching the race to see what happens and who wins SD is perfectly fine for me. I like my VM broadband to switch to sky and I am not going to pay the monthly fee to watch F1 so I will be sticking to streams or downloading it afterwards.

Talking to a mate though, if the race turns out to be on sky and is a boring race I will most probably just not watch it. Though from what I know sky are planning on doing a lot about the technical side of F1 which would be good to see.

I phoned Virgin to see what i could get and they offered the full sky sports package with movies for an extra 15 quid a month with a free Tivo box thrown in. Quite happy really.

Was tempted to see what virgin would offer me as an existing customer, but I noticed they are only showing the F1 channel in standard definition.

Aye, I did think about going to Sky for the HD but for £15 extra for sports and movies was to good a deal (Plus it kept the good lady quiet as she got the movies)

Just looked and you can get it in HD for an extra 7 pounds, Will see how I get on with the SD.

no HD for f1 on virgin. The virgin-sky HD pack excludes the f1 channel.

And SS3 and 4, and a few of the Movie channels. Tbh, the channels available in HD strike me as a bit... random. You get Sky Movies Premier in HD, but not Premier +1, for example

Kinda. I got Sky+ HD in the Summer for the Football season. Been years since I had Sky.

When hearing about the Sky F1 channel, I decided to add Multiroom and install a Sky+ HD box in the newly decorated office/games room. Managed to pickup a box online for a decent price. Missus reckons I'll never be out of there :p

Upgraded to HD this week, paid extra for the new 1TB box but got self-install to save some monies. Wasted all I saved and then some getting the HDMI signal across the house to my living room (Splitters, switches, boosters and long cables) though as I couldn't bear to sit there and watch F1 with the bloody kids running around, making noise and getting in the way. The HDMI goes over 35 Metres and the picture is perfect.

No, I'll be spending Sunday afternoons doing something productive and catch the highlights show.

I'd have dropped £10 a month onto my virgin package without a moments though but these games Sky and Virgin are playing just put me off.

We moved to Sky from virgin media, simply because virgin won't be carrying the F1 channel in HD. After watching a season in HD on the BBC, it'd be hard to go back. The fact sky have now announced that they'll be broadcasting the F1 in DD 5.1 surround is an added bonus!

"A pub landlady has won her court fight with the English Premier League over using a Greek TV decoder to screen games."

"Instead of using Sky, on which it costs £700 a month to see Premier League matches,
she used the Greek TV station Nova, which has the rights to screen the games in Greece, and which cost her £800 a year"

This is great news as Greek TV station Nova are showing F1 in HD

I've not bought it, as I didn't have sky as I don't watch tv apart from F1 it would be a huge outlay just to watch 8 extra races for the season. As telescopi said, if you could just buy the F1 fo £10 per month I would have done it, but you need to spend £20 on a standard sky package plus upgrade to the HD for another £10 or so, I'm sure I've missed something out.

So for £360+ a year I would get to watch 8-10 extra F1 races live - no thanks!

As it happens I've got a friend who added my computer to their 'Sky Go' account so I can at least watch it over the web live if I feel the urge..

Pretty sure as soon as the FA stick a BPL logo or something on the live footage it becomes a work that can be copyrighted IIRC...

ps3ud0

It does say "could not be considered to be an author's own "intellectual creation" so even a logo won't matter.

I won't be looking in to it this year but next season I will.

The European court said that while live matches were not protected by copyright, any surrounding media, such as any opening video sequence, the Premier League anthem, pre-recorded films showing highlights of recent Premier League matches and various graphics, were "works" protected by copyright.

To use any of these extra parts associated for a broadcast, a pub would need the permission of the Premier League.
Stick a logo up in a corner during the full game/race - bang, copyrighted ;)

EDIT: Also Im pretty sure Sky will be looking to negotiate for the European rights next time round, not just by country to stop the above happening again - cant see the FA/BPL being unhappy with that...
