Difference between Conroe + pentium D?

Why oh why did you go for the 845 over the 6300?

The 6300 would wipe the floor even with a heavily overclocked 845, not to mention run much cooler and use less power. And with such a small gap in price as well...

Alright alright! It's my choice ;) I know your opinions, thanks very much :p
Yeah - I guess you know our opinions. :)

I'm still wondering about yours though, why did you choose the chip you did? Is that you simply didn't believe us and the reviews? Was it that the cheaper price was worth the inferior product.... what was it?

Why are people slating him so much? Do you really care what he bought in the end.

Ive got a PD 930 and a 6300. Both are good chips. Admitedly the C2D is better and faster but the 930 is no slouch. It doesnt run that hot either. Also concorderules - i like the way you pluck figures out of the air like that.

BTW just so you know my cpu is equivalent to an AMD 4400x2 @ ~11.6ghz

Well chaps, you can all wind your neck's in, I've just ordered a E6300. It better be worth it!

Oh it will be, and you won't be able to resist clocking it :p

Ahem, I'm just Reading the beginner's guide to overclocking :o Somebody call the fire brigade.. I smell burning :p I read of even the cheap C2D chips being o/clocked to 3Gig and beyond.. I'd just like a smaller, safe overclock to 2.5 say. do you think a complete newb with the guide and help from this fine forum can achieve this? And reading the guide it looks like a Decent heatsink/fan + some good thermal paste is really all that's needed?

What are you complete specs?

Any cheap 667 ddr 2 and mid ranged board is good for at least 2.33ghz. Cooling wise they run very cool, what you have should work fine I imagine. Freezer 7 pro is always a good alternative though.

I have a cheap ish cooler master heatsink + fan at the moment. MOBO is Asrock DUAL-VSTA as I wanted to keep my 6600GT for the moment. Only other thing is I currently only have 1 gig of 5300 DDR2 RAM. Do you need to have 6400 to overclock the CPU?

No, 667 is PC-5300 although your motherboard isn't exactly the best going.

I have my 6300 at 2.8ghz with good ddr2 5300.

Great! I realise my mobo isn't the best, the giveaway was the price at under £40. You reckon I can get an overclock to near to 2.5 tho?

The asrock will do something like 300fsb, times by 7 multipler and you have 2.1ghz. You can always change components later but the cpu will last you much longer

Yeah, 2.1 would be great, not far off the 6400 speed. It's just a chance for me to have a go at overclocking. Going to take it s-l-o-w and not do anything I'm not sure of. Hurry up, chip!
