The thing is they obviously cant block the cheats until theyve been created, give them a few days and itll be sorted for a few more weeks.

That’s the thing though, it's going to cost them (AV/Infinity) to keep updating the game against cheaters and the cheaters will eventually win with this system

Hacking is going to get out of hand on this game. VAC is seriously useless and has always been. For a start it's 6 week delayed bans. Plus the private hacks aren't going to get detected for months.

VAC isnt so much useless.. PB wasnt better

"There's always a way" as the sayin goes

Its the lack of dedis and the option to ban hackers from your servers

Punkbuster is a lot better than VAC, Punkbuster is updated more regulary than VAC also. Not to mention the instant bans.

kind of harsh saying this but, i somewhat hope hacking does get out of hand on this game, hopefully it'll knock some sense into IW and they'll add dedicated servers.

I agree, I think for once I am actually supporting the hackers lol. :p

Sorry, i mean to say PB isnt MUCH better. It was better but hacks were still ever present in CoD4 however, you had the option to voteban and the admins could just do it themselves.

Regardless of anti cheat, its a **** when a hacker comes onto MW2 games.

True, true.

TF2 has the same problem with hacks & VAC but the community is self-regulating to a large extent, if not persistantly then at least on a short-term "get this hacker off this specific server" basis.

Not being able to even kick people from a game is crazy imo, it's begging to be griefed.

They should know from their previous games though, hackers cannot be stopped. You can provide the means to the end user to prevent hackers going rampant, sure. You can update PB/VAC but they ALWAYS find a way.

IW still ****** me off

Whilst his way of putting it wasnt exactly great he has a point, ur giving money (at a premium over other PC games) to a company that will see it as a justification for console porting in future, thereby reducing the likelihood of dedicated servers returning to their next title.

I didn't pay any more for this than I have done for other games in the past.

You said u are able to join with friends, is this just all by clicking Play Now at the same time? And being the best in a server may not really change as u wont be able to pick servers where you know the standard of play is at a high level.

You go to 'Play Now', then you invite as many people as you want so you're in a 'party', then when you have all the people you want, you click find game, choose the game mode, and it matches you up with other players and makes sure your party is on the same team.

As someone said earlier in this thread the point of a boycott is to give up something to make a point, even if it's something you like (in part at least).

I think the PC community as a whole has made a point already, they took notice and seemingly decided to ignore our requests. Now the only way they will make any changes if they get feedback from those who have actually played the game. In reality it's unlikely we'll get dedicated servers now.

Whilst I personally dont give a **** whether you bought the game or not, I think its unlikely that by buying it anyway youre suddenly going to count any more in IWs estimation than if you had deprived them of another sale. If that had been the case and you and many others had done it, they might have to ask themselves why? As it is they have set ambitious targets for sales, 11-12 million by the end of 2009. The only way they arent going to do this again is if they are hurt financially. Not achieving those results because of a boycott by PC players will definitely be heard.

Well i think youd better enjoy it while you can and I mean that seriously. With the depth of hostility to the game, quarterly updates and the wide proliferation of hacks and cheats so quickly, lag is going to be the least of the problems.

Do you guys think that the PC longetivity of this particular game has been vastly decreased? One thing I keep feeling is that ultimately this game has annoyed enough people on PC that any chance it staying around like COD4 is pretty much zero. Hell even COD5 appears to be more healthy 'long term'...

I just cant see a community springing up on a game that can be modded, doesnt have specific servers to cater for clans and the like (as good as matchmaking is playing with the same crowd outside your party is pretty much impossible) and already has cheats that cant be intervened humanly....

IW have to be congratulated - in one fell swoop they removed any possible 'soul' this game could have...

ps3ud0

it will go like cod waw .

some will like waw but as a cod game online its pretty much a failure compared to the other cods. 3000 players compared to 17000-20000 on cod 4 daily all day.

you have all the extra features like mods and big servers and all the other trimmings that this game doesnt have. so with out any patches, changes i see a very short life for this game. i do honestly think they will add changes to it as it will only up sales of the game. just depends how quickly they do it .

also if new battlefield has alll the right pickings like people want then mw2 will go straight to the bargin bin come launch day of the new bf game.

till then its just a case of what to play if you arnt buying it and thats why a lot are just giving in cause theres not much on the scene at the moment.

To be fair though, people knew this before buying it. I knew to expect a game that would only appeal for a week or so and I probably won't come back to again. Anyone who buys it expecting long term appeal has either not read anything or will be dissapointed.

Yes they have destroyed any longetivity this game has, but I knew that when I bought it so treat it like any other game which I play for a week or so and never return to. No skin off my back really. Batman Arkham cost me the same price as this game and I played it for a week and never returned to it. At least COD MW2 has some sort of multiplayer to increase that life beyond a few days of single player and I enjoyed the single player over all the same as I did for Batman. People didn't blast that for having no multiplayer at all, so treat COD MW2 with the same merits and NOT what it is missing.

There are two really critical points that explain this attitude.

1 - Activision/IW actively do not want this game to have much longevity
2 - Activision/IW do not want third parties creating any content for this game

Too much longevity makes it harder to justify the next sequel, however if by this time next year everyone has tired of the multiplayer on this game, they'll be champing at the bit to get a new fix and will merrily spend another £35 on a new, almost identical game.

Similarly, if other people create content that makes it hard for them to justify releasing £5.99 map packs and weapons etc. as DLC. Take that community development aspect away - more potential revenue.

This allows Activision and IW to carefully control exactly how much content the game recieves and when and allows them to try and control how much interest there is in the game and when they want it to die down a bit in order to get everyone ready for the sequel.

It's all money money money and it is a proven concept now, you can expect this to start happening more and more.
