Digg.com - Modern Warfare 2 boycott.

The boycott was akin to cutting one's nose, ears, lips and balls off. The next game probably won't even come to pc now. Morons.

Good, if IW havent got the balls to be honest with the PC gamer for its reasons for shafting them, good riddance to bad rubbish.

You only have to look at the guys IW put forward to explain this fiasco, a bunch of console kiddies who have probably never used a PC for more than doing their CV's.....

IW are dead to me now as a developer......DICE will be getting my cash from now on.

Hows that a bad thing? You can't even pick what map you want to play on ffs, you've to hop in and out of the mode you want to play and even if it shows a map you like odds are the lobby merges with another and the map gets changed.

according to IW staff it still sold better than cod4 on pc.

Yeah right. I'm pretty sure Modern Warfare 1 was number one in the PC charts on its week of release.

MW2 was number 5.

Unless PC sales have rocketed in the last couple of years (which they haven't) then they are lying.

I want to add my two pence worth:

Bought this game yesterday and my opinion is that they have killed the multiplayer experience for all the reasons you know about and for me, the game has lost the majority of its appeal.

Single player is as bad as it was in COD4 so no improvement there, just different maps.

Back to Cod 4 MP I go.

I really wish I hadn't purchased this waste of money.

Very true.

Can someone explain how IW are making money from not having dedicated servers? It must have been a business decision.

It stops mods so forces you to pay for dlc. Prevents servers which allow players to play using pirated copies of the game so you have to have a real copy to play online.

Now they control the backend operation of the MP service, rather than it being handled by the community, nobody except IW can change anything about the game.

No fan made maps, no custom mods etc. etc.

It means that when people start to get bored of the maps on offer for example, in the past they'd go to modernwarfare2mods.com or something and download a few popular user made maps to inject a bit of freshness into the game. Now IW are the only people who can do that, so when they notice interest in the game waning a bit - £5.99 map pack ahoy.

Not seen that yet and I won't hold my breath considering how utterly confused and wrong everyone was about 'dedicated servers' when someone unlocked the dev console.

hmmmm... would be nice if true, still not convinced it is though. I've seen a lot of places report 'pirate copies can play online' ultimately referring back to the Hamachi thing, nothing much else.

edit - ok, seems I was wrong, there was a working crack but it has been patched against already, so it seems people are awaiting a new crack atm.

The full online-play through IWNET thing did happen, lasted about 3 or 4 days before Steam patched the game and stopped it working, co-op online is still possible with Hamachi but not the MP anymore.
