Do IW / Activision make more money on the console releases though due to higher RRP, or does the slice that is paid to MS/Sony negate that difference?

AKAIK, the difference in price is to cover the licensing fees. I doubt they make equal profit between the two but I would guess that's it's close enough to be negligible. Though tbf, they did jack the prices up for PC.

A subset of PC Gamers? I think not

I think its the vast majority of PC gamers will miss it, no dedicated servers removes all bar 2 of the benefits of playing a game on the pc (those being better graphics and kb+mouse)
Oh you think not? Well that's settled then! I didn't realise you thought not.

Pretty sure the many more millions they sell on consoles gives it the edge.

Reading helps, especially when the info is JUST a few posts up.

COD4 sold 13mil copies (http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-sells-13-million/) as of May this year - this is total PC + Console sales.

2007 sales figures:
TOTAL 7mil (http://investor.activision.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=289631)
XBOX: 3.04mil (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6184847.html)
PS3 is 1/3 of XBox using the both Nov 07 and Jan 08 figures, so it sold 1.01mil (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6184008.html & http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6186077.html)
PC: 7mil - 3.04mil -1.01mil = 2.95mil

If you upscale this to the total 13mil figure, then you get 5.47mil PC sales and 5.65mil Xbox sales.
Yes, clearly it only sold 1mil for PC and was pirated

Pretty sure the many more millions they sell on consoles gives it the edge.

If you take the figures posted above though,

5.65 million Xbox
1.88 million PS3
----
7.53 million console sales.
5.47 million pc sales

PC sales are still a large portion of total sales so there isn't much of an 'edge' there.

Part of me wonders then if IW is getting back handers from MS in order to tempt more people towards the 360 version (which equals more income for them through subscriptions etc). I don't want to speculate though and even if they did employ such tactics, the boycott shows that they wouldn't likely work, that's if people keep to their word and don't buy the game.

You are talking crap there.

welcome to the internets! AWPC is one of the rare breed of pc gamers that seems to be happy to see pc gaming lagging behind consoles and tries to spread the word about it all the time. why does he own a good rig i dont know.. e-penis maybe?

Where did you get that from?

The whole MP system is P2P player hosted, there are no servers

It will be a lag fest

What??? So this is the same system as operation flashpoint? No way. I don't believe it, I have a PC so I can play multiplayer games lag free, choice of maps, community etc. IW surely haven't screwed us over this much, I mean this isn't just disappointing it an absolute disgrace.

I assume these are retail copy's ? The ones I barely ever buy any more as downloading from steam is far easier & less hassle than stupid old fashioned dvd's ?
Find it a shame online copy's are never added in sales figures.

I think figures are everything, as otherwise PC would have even more really if those figures do not include online

yep, and thier PR department is hyping it up as "being able to join a game straigth away"

As presumeably looking at a list of servers with the map/game type rotation, number of players and ping was too confusing for our feeble minds.

Being randomly shoved into a game with random with no idea of ping server location or map rotation is defiantly better

I think people need to think that MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, Activision played apart in this.

I imagine they did, to 'cut costs' or to get the pc version out at the same time as the consoles. Irony is, they have probably lost more sales by making it coming out at the same time than they would have deleying it but having proper dedicated servers running.

Surely the developers care what the fans think? I don't think you go into games development just to make money; it's hardly the most lucrative or easiest career to succeed at is it?

Maybe all the publishers care about is profits but I imagine the people that made the game would actually care what their fans think?

Certainly your average chav would have an Xbox 360 not a PC, if you know what I mean.

Not that this applies to everyone, of course there are intelligent and educated console users like yourself and indeed like me, I have a 360 and I'm eagerly awaiting Forza.

Wait so the Xbox 360 is now a chavs console? The people of OcUK never fail to amaze me.

Oh dear, what are IW doing to cause this much wrath from the PC market?
