One of the biggest games, made by one of the biggest developers and published by one of the biggest publishers? I think its going to have a lot of influence on other companies decisions.

I doubt it, i can't see companies like VALVe and id doing this, they know the score

According to a poster earlier in this thread there have been 100,000 cancelled pre-orders from one retail outlet alone.

Well one I'd like to see a source for that figure and of course not all that are cancelling will be signing the petition, also not all cancellations will be for that reason only.

Oh yeah no doubt, just saying not all :)

I'm sure there is a little timmy out there, who got robbed of his phone, now has to cancel his pre-order, so he can buy a new phone.

What a way to clutch at straws, 99% of cancellations will be due to the dedicated server issue.

I bought CoD4 after hearing RL friends/coworkers going on about it as if it was the best game ever made. What I got was a pretty sub-standard FPS that was less fun, less involved, and not as pretty as a lot of the other FPS games out there.

It seemed it was one of those cases where a genre hits the mainstream (thanks to consoles) and those new players think it's the second coming, whilst the rest of us have seen it all before.

I vowed never to buy another CoD game after that because it was such a waste of money. MW2 looks like more of the same, so this isn't even a disappointment for me, it just solidifies my stance on this series.

Not as pretty/fun/less involved as what at the time multiplayer PC FPS gaming wise?

Cod4 was and still probably is, immense. I had it on release day, due to having all of the other cod games, initially I thought it was OK, but over time and paying in a clan with the game it was soo much fun.

I hear that a lot one here, 'COD was nothing new, there are plenty other better examples'.

Never has anyone been able to quote one of these examples though....

Should be CoD4 was nothing new. The first Call of Duty, one of my favourite games and beats every other CoD by a country mile imo.

Games that do Modern Warfare better? CoD4 would have been brilliant if it had not been for the American missions, please do away with the obligatory cringeworthy rap track too. In terms of fun with modern weapons, Crysis Warhead is the winner.

I agree with that, I was referring however to smaller companies rather than the more well established ones. Most of the big guns have their own business models set in place and it works for them, however an up and coming company may look to Activisions example as a way to secure a financial foothold in the market.

I remember getting the original CoD using my GeForce 4... I was pretty young and didn't have a clue about computers but it ran ok as far as I can remember.

But boy was it a sweet game. I had never done anything like it before, storming beach fronts and shooting many a people. :p

I've always found Crysis incredibly dull and it's the mulitplayer aspect we're getting at...

Ok, Multiplayer. Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, Call of Duty (+ United Offensive), Left4Dead. All multiplayer games I have enjoyed more than I did CoD4.
