Ok, Multiplayer. Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, Call of Duty (+ United Offensive), Left4Dead. All multiplayer games I have enjoyed more than I did CoD4.

Personally TF2 never appealed to me, CSS I tried many times and never really found it that great, Left4dead bored me after a few hours play.

COD4 MP has had me hooked since release, it's not perfect by any means, I could write a list of complaints about the game but imo it's the best MP FPS that's come out in the last few years.

MW2 was the game I have been waiting for, I would have upgraded my graphics to ensure I could run it as smooth as possible, now I may as well just buy a PS3.

Good for you.

Why are you in this thread then lol.

Lol coz i wuz guna get da gam but fort id beta nt if dey rnt puten deda srvrs en .

Don't ask a question if you don't want an answer to it.

I can see the appeal of it, and after watching some of my friends play I understand why its so addictive. I'd hoped MW2 would be able to draw me in but this news seems to be an indication of a multiplayer game I don't want to be a part of.

That would have been a bad response from anyone, nevermind someone leading up the PR department. You might have just told all PC gamers to **** off and spit in their faces, just so there's no confusion about how you really feel.
Frankly, if I were your boss, I'd fire you for that. Reply 0 Vote up Vote down

You sad ****.

If all of those people would otherwise have paid say £30 on average for this game, that's lost revenue of more than £3.5m. That matters to anyone, let alone Activision.

Well, I think that's a bit optimistic. Activision don't make £30 every time you buy a game, it's probably more like a fiver at most.

In which case if 100,000 actually didn't buy it who were going to, then they'll lose something more like £500k, nowhere near £3.5 million.

There has to be a way to hurt them other than a boycott, because lets face it they make 100x more money from the stupid console gamers anyway so as shown above really couldn't give a damn.

It depends how much they sell the game for to the retailers, not how much that make on it as that would include having to consider development, marketing and general running the business costs.

Ie they may "make" £5 on each game but sell them at £10 each to the retailers, Id hazard a guess that the retailers dont make that much profit on the games, more of a % goes to the developers + producers.

Those figures were for their overall business, not broken down per title though.
The sales for COD4 between 360 and PC are pretty even

Either way, the point is Activision aren't going to be losing out on anywhere near £30 a game, unless most retailers are being super generous and selling it at a loss to themselves.

For clarification, i'd suspect that of say the £30 typical price you'd pay, about £5 of that is going directly to Activision/IW, the rest will be distributions costs and retailer markup.

I'd imagine the bad press is doing a lot. I've even seem some people go as far to to say EA look good in comparison!

Sales will obviously hurt them, but at the end of the day they'll blame the "childish" pc community. As long as the console market stays intact they will be fine.

Thing is though, if you are a Activision shareholder would you be happy that the company is trying it's utmost to NOT be profitable on one of the major platforms for gaming?
Remember, Valve makes pretty decent profits from mostly PC sales only.

Yes of course it wont be £30, but Id hazard a guess that the retailers are not making 600% profit per title as you are guessing. its probably more along the lines of 50% to 100%. Were still speculating here though.

Nice work with the figures rypt

Thats an extremely good point. I would however like to think that if the shareholders had any power, they would have ousted Kotick and Bowling a long time ago.

They're not though are they - remember whilst it may not be to our liking, we are not an average customer. There is every chance such a system will indeed be more popular with the average person who just wants to go online and shoot people for an hour who are roughly the same skill. If the game appeals to such people (Just look at the sales figures for The Sims if you are in any doubt of the number of casual PC gamers around) then it could well be an even bigger financial success than before.

The problem people have isn't that they are just treating the PC badly, it's that they are treating the enthusiast PC community badly. Sadly, this doesn't necessarily mean they will suffer poorer sales overall.

Everything they've done is with the aim of making more money, from console and PC - the sad thing is, making the most amount of money is probably not conducive to pleasing the hardcore PC gaming crowd.

Why? Shareholders don't care about the games, they care about money, which Kotick is bringing in like mad.

There is no real-world proof (right now) that the IW.net model will increase profits on the PC platform - as such it is a major risk adding it to one of the MAJOR titles.
It would have made more sense to trial it on a small title, or to run it in conjunction with dedicated servers.
