Digg.com - Modern Warfare 2 boycott.

I can't say I'm surprised, but it's definitely upsetting. There's been many a horse-flogging thread where pirates try and justify their activities.

Saying that, after years of paying for every single game I play, I'm in a quandary over MW2 - there's no way in hell I'm paying £35 for a short SP game with gimped MP, but I'd still like to play the SP campaign.

I'll have to wait until it's on sale in about ten billion years.

That's the thing though. You want to play the single player. Therefore its just a question of do you want to play it enough to pay £35. Pirating shouldn't even be on the agenda.

Personally I don't think that's a bad price for 6-10hours of awesome singleplayer. I paid £25 for max payne 2, years ago and completed it in 6 hours. Still one of the best gaming experiences ever.

Penny arcade showing a bit of support!

edit: took out the link due to some bad language , you know where to look.

well, after reading all this and pondering the decision for many days, I have decided to cancel my pre order. My pre-order is at £29.99 so a little cheaper than most but, I don't care, Infinity Ward need to realise. Part of me thinks Im making the wrong decision and that by doing this, it gives them the ammo to abandon PC completely. However, I'm sure they could have had dedicated servers and still implemented better anti piracy tech and as such they have maybe taken the easy route. Dedicated servers made COD:MW multiplayer, simple as. As such I'm going to cancel and see how this IWnet thing pans out.

What point of my being unhappy with my review being deleted bothers you so?

It is no suprise they are deleting them, they aren't reviews of the product. They are moans about something that hasn't been included. You have no idea how the final product plays in multiplayer so how can you review it?

So the Rainforest shop apparently now has a policy of deleting mass bad reviews. Wonder how we can get that around the to media?

How can anyone "review" a game they haven't played? I think they should stop all reviews for products that aren't out yet as before then it's merely speculation and should be treated as such.

Was thinking the same thing, people are looking like total children over this boycott business.

Cancelled my pre-order and then with the saved money pre-ordered Battlefield:Bad Company 2 instead :D

This is defo worth reading “The Way of the Console” By far the best read on this subject so far. I totally agree with his point about the likes of ATI, Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Logitech and other big PC hardware manufacturers should be very worried as I have myself have been wondering is it worth building a new high tech PC to play what...........................COD:UO? and this was way before the news broke great article.

This is a message to the following suppliers of hardware to the PC gaming market: ATI, nVidia, Intel, AMD, Asus, VIA, Logitech, Belkin, Thrustmaster, Creative and many other potential standers-by need to consider that their sales can and will suffer if this goes “the way of the console”. Nobody’s going to buy upgrades and peripherals for their PCs each year without having reason to do so. The PC Gaming community provides that reason. It is the number one reason why the above companies should also be concerned and applying what pressure they can to correct this problem. If you look at the long haul, heading to the “Way of the Console” for gaming means you’ll have a much more restricted cross section of customers to be able to sell to, not because of the environment changes — but because gaming on the PC will become too costly for development houses, and that means a hobbled ability to make profits when everyone migrates to an environment like that. Bottom line? If I’m not willing, or even remotely need to buy the new joystick, video card, processor or system board you’re selling because all sales are in Game Consoles which need no such upgrades, you’re going to be run out of business.

Interesting read.

It's interesting times for PC Gamers. On one hand you have some awesome looking games in development. On the other hand you just know more big name developers are going to abandon the PC gaming scene.

I'd be interested to know how a possible death of PC gaming affects not just the likes of Nvidia and AMD/ATI, but other company's such as Logitech and Creative.

There is also one huge software developer that keeps millions of gamers tied to a particular OS. What % of PC Gamers will stick to Windows. Sure MS have a bigger market than PC Gamers, but a loss is a loss and I bet it will be huge. Windows 7 has come around just in time. Nothing is clear at the moment, but I bet it will be by the next Windows release.

It seems to me the way forward is mobile gaming, mobile internet. Pretty much mobile everything and that is an area MS do not 'currently' have a hand in.

Just to add. I bet the PC will still be the best place to play MW2 multiplayer.

I think you're forgetting the fact that PC gaming enthusiasts are in the minority for the games market and for the PC hardware market. The businesses really don't care if they're going to have to stop producing to us as we make them such a small amount of money compared with the prebuilts the supply and sell. It may not be a nice thought, but we not a market worth catering for.

was gonner buy this for myself and another for my nephew for the online play ! , now i'am just gonner buy another copy off cod waw instead.

Well we obviously are as they are catering for us already? If they didn't make a profit in some manner they wouldn't bother even now.

PC pirates control the future right now :( (which is a scary thought:eek:). Its a shame for all the PC gamers like me & many others who buy all their games & spend the money on hardware but such is life :(

All these smaller hardware companies will either go bust or the large ones will just get bigger orders for more console hardware as that market grows. Intel & Nvidia already do a lot for PC game development & even sponsor certain games by providing engineers time for free to the developer. ATI will survive on their MS contracts for the 360.

As pirates have consistently damaged many games platform's (Commodore64, Amiga,Atari ST etc etc) I cannot see the PC becoming anything other than the new MAC as far as mainstream games development is concerned!

Whilst I agree that pirates have seriously hampered the likes of the Amiga and C64, at the same time those devices did reach the end of there lifespan after many years and were superseded by an advancement of technology.

Amiga 500 was released in 1987. I'll admit I was a sucker for pirate floppy's back then, but I did use the device and buy games for it right up until 1995 ish.

Kida of crazy but I here more about DS and PSP pirate games than PC games these days. Some of the guys at work have these memory card chips with 20 games on, whilst they still buy Steam games occasionally.
