I'll be joining the boycott, the only reason i would have brought this was for online multiplayer, obvious im no longer doing this

Ive cancelled by PC and PS3 pre-orders now... although the PS3 version has little relevance, im doing it out of some sort of principal.

At the same time, i will listen to how it turns out in reality as you never know how this is implemented, but from initial reading it just seems anti 'everything ive ever known about online pc fps' games (if that makes sense)

As a little food for thought, do you think that moves like this are the result of us now having game devs who were "raised" on xbox live rather than pc online gaming? It would at least go some way to explaining why they seem so out of touch and unaware of what they're doing.

most of them aren't that young.

I guess IW knows it will be heavily pirated and won't likely recuperate losses occured on time spent porting it to PC. 22k sigs so far. I wonder if they're thinking 'yea, and 15k of those will pirate it anyway, regardless of the 'I cancelled my pre-order BYE BYE iw!!!'

Admittedly most wont be, but the younger ones in their early to mid twenties will be.

Xbox live started early 2001, it's quite feasible for these people to have had their first taste of online gaming aged 10-15 and be completely naive when it comes to gaming on a pc, let alone the online communities surrounding a game - something which you'd never experience gaming on a console.

Just a thought.

the biggest game to ever be released

Dunno if I'd go that far (I'm not doubting the success and appeal of the franchise), obviously depending on how one defines 'biggest', I wouldn't award the title to CoD:MW2

Seems a bit of a strange decision as presumably if there are no dedicated servers, they will need to run a HUGE amount of servers themselves, and rely on shoddy listen servers for the rest.

I'd be amazed if they don't back down as the vast majority of online FPS with much more than a token multiplayer mode since Quake have had dedicated servers. From a technical perpsective I can't see if being that much extra work to ship out a dedicated server package. The only other explanation I can think of is if they have aspirations of persuing a subscription model whereby players pay £5 a month to play online or whatever, but I've not heard anything along those lines.

Dugg!

A little disappointing :( I'll still buy it for the PC though, I prefer mouse/keyboard for an FPS and I'm mainly getting it for the SP campaign anyway!

the biggest game to ever be released just seems a bit odd.

I'd say WoW and any of it's expansions take that title with ease.

Oh and lets not forget (iirc) the best selling game in history The sims/sims 2

heck hl1 has sold more copies.

Or halo.

Looking at the internet reaction, I don't think they'll need THAT many servers. :D
