DirectX 10.1 to be in Vista SP1, needs new gpu!!!

Theres always a point buying them, but only buying them to run the Dx10 games that are out then, and also Dx9 as they'll be faster than current cards, just like buying 8800's last November, everyone was buying them for Dx9, as they are the fastest Dx9 cards you can get, there was no point buying them for Dx10 when Dx10 wasn't released till January, and the first game to use Dx10 was 9 months away so you could finally get to use it. :)

I think this whole "dx compatability" is often taken too far, as the 8800 series have clearly shown, the dev uptake of new directX models is relatively slow, it shouldnt be a selling point for most people in most cass imo.

What should be a selling point is the fact my mates 8800GTX runs oblivion at 1920x1200 with everything maxed and AA and HDR on well above 60FPS nearly all the time whereas my 7900GTO in a VERY similar system (almost identical in fact) barely managed 25FPS at 1280x1024 with everything on middling settings and HDR rather than AA on cos I cant enable both!

I know what im buying the next time I come into some money ;)

You double muppet :p

SLI might not be the greatest choice but the highest depreciation will be at the cutting edge not mid range I think.

The thing is we still havent really seen all these apparent dx10 efficency gains, if crysis or whatever plays much better in dx10 then people will have to eat their words even on mid range cards

to summarise, dx10 cards will not work with directx 10.1, it needs new hardware, so you guys who have spent £££ on a card to futureproof yourself must be feeling gutted, glad i waited!
So, just a 'told you so' post basically, and you're wrong anyway since most people bought the 8800 for DX9 speed not DX10. While you are waiting for something new, the 8800 owners will be enjoying better framerates in Bioshock, Crysis, UT3 etc, plus everything that's already out. Playing the awesome (IMO) Rainbow 6 Vegas at the moment and there's no way my X1800 XT could have run it smoothly. SupCom, Oblivion, Stalker, GRAW 2 are all so much smoother too and I can now use my monitors native res with everything.

But...the crucial thing is that 8800's were sold on DX10. 7950 GX2 SLi could run Oblivion at XHD resolutions and so could X1950XTX Crossfire. The only thing is that they didn't cost £500 per card.

The whole 8800 GTX is a disgrace. People have been ripped of by hardware that simply can't run Company of Heroes in DX10. It's trash, saying, "Oh, I can just upgrade to G92". What? After already throwing away 500 pounds you chuck another £600 to compensate for nVidia's crummy hardware. No-one needed the 8 series, except for DX10. That was the idea of it.

this i do agree with...

we haven't seen the ati 2000 series and nvidia 8000 series play a real dx10 game. so we can't really say they'll run them games crap or well

Of course COH runs like trash, its just a Dx9 game patched to Dx10, like Lost Hope Extreme Lag Edition and COJ, proper Dx10 games will run mcuh better on the 8800's, like Bioshock, Crysis etc...., of curse everyone needed the 8 series, they also run Dx9 faster than any card before, that is what the 8800's were being bought for, not Dx10 as it wasn't around last November, why buy a card for soemthing that you cant use for about another year, pointless. :)

Of course the 8800/2900 series were sold on the premise of dx10 but thats to gain extra sales from enthusiasts who have little knowledge of computers. Those who have computer knowledge know that the two series of cards are the best dx9 cards out there atm.

Who cares about CoH DX10, it's a poorly coded piece of crap, the only decent example of DX10 should be BioShock which is out in under 2 weeks, if that runs at half the DX9 performance like CoH/CoJ then you call the 8800 a disgrace.

i guess not much. i think it as abit more texture graphics
thanks, is there any real info about that published yet ? i cant find nothing where it says the actual difference between DX10.1 and DX10

and whats the difference like from 10.1 and 10 ? like they just want us to spend more money like i will still play on dx9 then

Well personally I didn't see any adverts for 8800 series cards, and none of the reviews I read listed any serious DX10 benchmarks, so I don't agree they were 'sold on DX10'. I viewed DX10 as a bonus, I bought a 8800 to run DX9 games now and in the next 6 months.

Also who cares about CoH DX10, it looks no better than DX9. It's just a patch to add flakey DX10 support because Microsoft paid them to, it's not a game written from the ground up to work in DX10 and optimized for DX10. You can't seriously judge DX10 performance on that.

The only people who have lost out are the suckers who bought the Microsoft hype about DX10 being the second coming. Also since when did they cost £500? The GTX is £330, the GTS 640 is £230, the 320 is £175. Also comparing single cards against SLI/Crossfire is hardly fair. And not everyone was upgrading from GX2 SLI or X1950XTX XFire FFS.

Do all you people insist on having every graphical option on the highest setting? Ive been haply running rainbow 6 vegas on a 6800 GT and 1gb of ram since it came out. Its not on the highest settings but runs smoothly and the gameplay is fun.

im afraid so :( after getting used to playing games on max settings and smooth fps, ill get annoyed if i cant play any new games like that. Ill just put it on the shelf and wait until i can upgrade my components to play it how i want. Luckily theres no games out that has made me do that yet :D

This thread is silly, why people would want to rub peoples noses in this fact is really stupid.
I guess the thread starter and one or two others posting in this thread are just jealous because they can't afford a 8800GTX and get the benefit of higher frame rates and better visual quality now. Sad.
