VSA was an option only from 06 onwards and quite frankly, not worth the hassle looking for if you found a good example without it. VSA won't save you.
You can put after-market traction control on any of the 05/06 onwards DBW models which is much better should you want it. But for the stock power output, you really don't.
There were many suspension revisions over the years which softened it up, then started to wind back that softening a bit. I think the transition to 17" wheels was when the handling became far more progressive.

I had one for about a year.
In the rain I found myself doing 30mph on roads I'd normally be doing 60mph on.
It was ok in the summer pootling round town with the roof down but it was just too slow for me. I think it was too much of a come down from the evo.

If you search for posts by me about the S2k I did a review after owning one for a year and various other detailed ones to help people out.
In short its a great fun car, but in my eyes the cheap ones run the risk of being amazingly large money pits. Personally I'd be looking at getting an 04-06 pre VSA car with the optional body kit, keep it totally standard and mint... ideally as low miles as possible, enthusiast owned and using it as a second car to complement something else if I return to the fold.

Mine is polybushed and while it's not going to waft over the road surface and take any bump in it's stride I am not getting out and thinking 'cor blimey me back! I can happily do a 5 hour drive and not be tired, uncomfortable, cramped or otherwise. Everyone is different though.
