I've noticed this topic pop up in a number of threads recently..

I, and I'm sure many others, think it would be great to be able to talk about TV episodes that may not have necessarily aired yet in the UK. Surely it's no different to discussing a game that hasn't been released yet over here?

The actual discussion is perfectly legal and done on many forums, and I would have thought it should be fine as long as there's absolutely no mention of how or where the episode was watched. If it's down to spoilers etc, we could have separate threads for "US Pace" and "UK Pace"..

I'm just wandering exactly what the reasoning is, and if there is any chance that the rules could be relaxed a little. Would be interested in hearing other peoples thoughts on it as well..

I'm sure it would be fine as there's nothing to say that you could be simply living in the US and posting on these boards. Absolutely fine in my opinion, if you're using online sources to watch overseas programs then I'd keep that quiet but I wouldn't think there'd be a problem with discussing episodes that haven't been released here but have been released in the states, ie. the new series' of Family Guy, and such. :)

But the mods don't think it is fine at all, hence the reason this thread exists.

The mods won't allow the discussion of playing games that haven't been released yet either. I presume since the forums are attached very obviously to the company that they don't want to risk tarnishing the OcUK brand with a dodgy forum.

you can always go elsewhere, or run your own forum with your own rules.
The problem with talking about things that have not been aired yet is it shows the forum in a bad light, showing a userbase which is given freedom to talk about the fruits of piracy.

Use your brain.

You are aloud to talk about anticipated things, but more often than not a pirate will come in and ruin it.

Yeah, your argument makes no sense. Say for example I start talking about a new season of something that hasn't been released here yet, does that make me a pirate?

You assume that because this forum is predominately UK based, that the entire userbase is in the UK. Which isn't true. For all you know I could be across the pond watching these shows completely legitimately.

Nope, shouldn't be allowed and segregating discussion would just add too much to moderation work loads because too many people would fair to read or follow the rules.

I like having someplace to discuss shows knowing I'm unlikely to run into any spoilers.

but the majority of the userbase is in the UK, therefore spilling your guts about stuff that isnt aired for the UK is going to A) **** a few people off B) get pirates joining in and hiding behind the 'im in the US' excuse.

My arguement is sound logic, just like all the rules on the forum.
If you dont like it go to the forum for the show, or a similar US forum to this one, or patiently wait for the UK users to start discussing it..?

This is the only forum I have ever encountered were the rules are so strict you can't talk about things like this. I don't think anyone would mind a bit of bad light considering how strict these forums are. Also, a thread about True Blood went on for a while were lots of season 2 discussion went on, which hadn't aired fully in the UK at the time. Not a single mention of where anyone got the episodes from.

The Empireonline forum allows the discussion of shows that are currently airing in the US and I think they would have a lot more to lose than ocuk considering they rely on the film and tv people for their jobs.

It's a daft rule and as others have said, I can't see the problem as long as it's not mentioned how they watched the show.

Frankly, its ridiculous, ok, I can almost understand games, because they actually do cost money. However we don't actually pay to watch tv, if you pay for sky, you don't pay for individual shows, watch it or not you're paying the same price.

that's their decision, as a business, and their forums also generate ad revenue, ocuk forums on the other hand do not. if ocuk wants a squeeky clean forum then respect it, its not a right to have access here.

what about things like the wire ? came out on dvd long before the beeb got hold of them

Common sense would state that it's ok to discuss so long as it's freely (and I don't mean in a monetary sense) and legally available to watch in the UK I would hope.
