Disney +

If you cant tolerate a mildly reduced stream quality in the midst of a global pandemic you've got issues.

100% agree, what is worse those complaining probably haven't had their TV calibrated, or indeed own a TV worth calibrating.

I've been watching Red Dwarf again, which was the ultimate in social isolation for Dave Lister, and no matter what the bit rate is, it is still as funny as heck. :)

It's not about tolerance. I get that they've done it and I get their reasons why but I've got a tonne of content across the board so I likely won't be watching it until it goes back to normal. As such it's just money down the drain for the time being.

I have no issues. I'm doing my bit as much as I can, thanks.

I have a question.
I want Disney +. The only way of doing it for us would be via my wifes laptop (720p) and then use $K chromecast to our 4K TV.
Im curious. being it is the laptop that is accessing Disney+, will the output be gimped to 720p? or will it allow the full 4K to be streamed to the TV?
Laptop is a Lenovo ideapad 305-15ihw

EDIT - Nevermind. after some testing it would apear the laptop, probably would cast in 4K but I just tested and it doesnt have the grunt to do it smoothly anyway.

Are you just casting the chrome browser? If so then it'll be gimped.

If it's a properly supported app, then it wouldn't be, as the chromecast connects directly to the source stream.

A mildly reduced stream? They are not launching their HD service, so people will be watching SD content on their UHD TV's.
I know this is not an issue like the virus currently killing people, I don't think there is anyone suggesting it is - however people have pre-ordered the product based on certain expectations, which are now not going to be met.
I know I would not be watching SD content on my TV had I signed up for the service (I was always going to wait until the last possible day to decide and this news has made my decision not to).

Yes there is a global pandemic, it however is not going to cause the end of life on earth or the end to civilisation and it doesn't mean we can't worry about the little things.

Where does it say SD? They've said:

"In anticipation of high consumer demand for Disney+, we are proactively instituting measures to lower our overall bandwidth utilisation by at least 25% in all of the markets launching Disney+ on March 24th"

Edit: it does look like they're selectively downgrading popular content to HD or delaying HD completely, seems very contradictory information floating around.

Regardless, life is changing across the globe. If you can't cope with some SD video instead if HD you're in for a rude awakening.

Just a heads up guys as I see people are having issues, the app is currently called DisneyLife and not Disney+, that’s why you can’t find it on devices.

From what I’ve read online, the DisneyLife app will be replaced with the Disney+ App.
This is straight from the Disney plus site

Please note that any account transition from DisneyLife to Disney+ is not automated. DisneyLife subscribers will have to sign up for a Disney+ subscription. When Disney+ goes live on 24 March 2020, you can download the Disney+ app on your favourite devices, create a new account to log in and stream the stories you love as well as new originals, all in one place.

I contacted Panasonic customer support today about support for the Disney + APP on my Panasonic GZ950 OLED and they said it won't be available at launch.

Good job i have an ATV 4K then:)

My Disney+ account does not let me log into the Disneylife app so it must be for the new app only.
